A/N: I promise. I am working on this story. However, I have been working on others more. If you want me to update this before I actually do, feel free to tell me to update, but please give me about three days to do so.
Thanks

He stirred awake a couple of hours later, and once he started to stir, I moved away from him, still half asleep myself.
I opened my eyes when he groaned in annoyance and looked at him to see that he had his eyes open, was looking at me, and had a scowl on his face.
Silently, I stared at him and waited for him to say or do something, not knowing what his problem was.
"Come here," he said. He grimaced while he reached for me, but I had put enough distance between us so that he couldn't get to me. "I wasn't ready for you to move yet."
I blinked and blinked again but didn't respond while I looked at him. I stayed on my haunches and waited to see what he would do next, not knowing what he meant about him not being ready for me to move yet.
Frederick grimaced and shifted while he moved his hand back to his side. "Come here, Clover," he said in a tone that had me rolling my eyes and scowling. He cleared his throat and bit back a soft sigh. "Please."
I blinked again, and my scowl deepened while my annoyance flickered. "Did you try to command me to do it?" I asked, making sure that my voice was barely above a whisper, and narrowed my eyes at him.
I could tell that both Antonio and Abram were still asleep in the room with us, and I didn't want to wake them up while we talked.
Frederick grimaced and turned his head to look at me. "Yes," he said, and I was mildly impressed that he actually confirmed that he did so, "but, please, Clover. Come here." Again, he gestured to his side, but I didn't move, not sure how he was going to react.
"But I am a different species than you and not human. Are you sure that you want someone like me to be beside you? Or is it only the pain and mate bond that is making you want me?" I couldn't help it; I couldn't help the bitterness and disgust flicker in my voice while I looked at the male I was supposed to call my mate.
Frederick sighed and closed his eyes before he looked at me again. "I won't send you away from your "family" if that is what you are worried about," he said softly, "and it's not just the mate bond that is making me want you."
I narrowed my eyes but didn't say a word. I was suspicious of him, especially since he didn't like different species to begin with.
What if this was all an act because he was in pain?
Frederick sighed and closed his eyes. He moved his hand back to his side, and I had a feeling that he understood why I didn't go to him, even though he wanted me to. "This isn't because I am in pain," he said and opened them again so that he would look at me. "As I said before, I wasn't ready for you to move."
"And what would you have done if I stayed by your side?" I asked and raised an eyebrow.
"I wouldn't have pushed you away, Clover," he said softly. "I would have taken in your scent, your true scent, and memorized it. I would have pulled you closer to me and buried my face into your hair."
I hesitated but moved back to his side and laid back down, but I wasn't at his side like he wanted. I couldn't...
Frederick sighed and closed his eyes before he opened them. Annoyance flickered through his eyes, and I slowly blinked while I looked at him. "That is not what I meant, Clove," he said coldly.
