Ghost drove around the cars at top speed, and I was surprised that it didn't cause a wreck. It cut off and veered through traffic on both sides, so people were honking and yelling at the invisible person.
Ms. Lowell groaned in the back of the car and muttered something about her driving record going out the window because there were times that Ghost had run red lights while it tried to get to wherever Frederick was located. She groaned again, and I had a feeling that she was just as green as I felt.
Ghost drove the car into the woods, earning a small scream from Ms. Lowell. Ghost didn't care and kept driving, driving the car with ease, even though it wasn't meant for this type of driving.
I glanced at Ghost and then looked forward, not as sick as Ms. Lowell but feeling slightly green. "Since when could you drive?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. I grabbed the 'oh shit' bar tighter when a tree came out of nowhere, but Ghost swerved around it with ease.
Ghost didn't reply, and if it did, then I had no idea what it said. It stayed silent and focused on the nonexistent road, bouncing every so often when the car went over different tree roots, and my stomach moved to places where it shouldn't.
A groan escaped my lips, and I had this urge to throw up, but I didn't because I didn't want to mess up the inside of Ms. Lowell's car. "I hope you have money to pay for the damage," I muttered, my stomach again doing somersaults.
Ghost didn't reply and turned off the headlights, letting us fall into a shroud of darkness. It didn't seem to have a problem with seeing, knowing what direction it needed, and paying attention to the trees that kept popping out of nowhere.
Ghost stopped the car before it ran into a moving figure and turned on the bright lights, illuminating the scene before us.
Three scaly figures surrounded a large wolf, and a gasp escaped Ms. Lowell's lips, indicating that it was Frederick. As soon as the bright lights came on, the figures looked towards the car, their yellow eyes glowing in the bright lights, and grinned, catching sight of me.
They made no move towards the car and turned their attention back to the Alpha that was on the ground. One bit the Alpha's back, and the Alpha howled in pain while the dragon-like figure pulled a chunk of his flesh away from his body and spat it out in the distance.
Anger bubbled in my stomach, chasing sickness, and I let out a growl that shook the whole car and was ignored by these scaly creatures. I let go of the 'oh shit' bar and grabbed the door handle, my other hand fiddling with the seat belt. "Keep her in here," I said, my voice hard and authoritative. "If something happens, and someone tries to get in, then leave. Do you understand?"
Ghost didn't respond, but I had a feeling that it didn't agree with what I wanted it to do. It made no move to stop me while I dislodged myself from the seatbelt and opened the door.
Another growl escaped my lips when Ghost grabbed my arm to stop me from leaving the car, and I turned around to see that it held a hilt toward me with nothing else showing.
Hesitantly, I looked at the hilt and then at Ghost, my anger boiling underneath my skin. I was surprised that the dragon-like creatures were ignoring me when I had one foot of the door, but I had a feeling that they were waiting, biding their time while they enjoyed harming the Alpha and slowly kill him.
The hilt moved closer to me, and Ghost signaled that I didn't have time to hesitate. It wanted me to take the hilt and use whatever was hidden in battle with these creatures.
Slowly, I nodded and grabbed the hilt. I bit my lip when a wave of ancient magic filled my body and pulled the hilt to reveal a double-edged sword with a very deadly looking blade made of some red material that I had never seen before.
Ms. Lowell gasped and studied the sword. "What the hell?" she asked. "Where did that come from?"
I didn't reply and shook my head. My grip tightened more around the hilt, and I got out of the car, taking the sword with me. "If something goes wrong, leave," I said again. "Make sure that she stays in the car." I slammed the car door shut, not hard enough to break it but hard enough to cause the whole car to shake.
Ghost instantly locked the car door but didn't move it from its spot. It let the car run, and I knew it was for a speedy getaway if anything went south.
I walked toward the three dragon-like figures, not afraid as I had once been. I watched the way the figures kept torturing Frederick, their attention solely focused on him and not on me, and took a deep breath and planned my attack before I attacked, silently.
And so, for one of them, it became too late because I killed it instantly, slicing through the figure in half as if it was made like butter.
The remaining two lifted their heads away from Frederick and growled. Both narrowed their eyes and attacked me at the same time.
I didn't panic and watched them come towards me. I had no idea why they were so slow, but I didn't care while I dodged one of their attacks and sliced their arm clean off their body.
The creature roared in pain, and the other one swiped at me with an open claw, and I sliced the claw off of its body with just one clean swipe of my blade.
I wanted blood. I wanted to torture these creatures that stood in front of me, but I knew that I was running out of time, even though it felt like I had all the time in the world.
However, Frederick did not, so as quickly as I could, I dislodged both of the dragon-like creatures' heads off their bodies and killed them, making sure that they would stay dead and not be able to rejuvenate.
As soon as I made sure that they were dead and couldn't heal themselves, I took a deep breath and sunk to my knees, feeling the power that made the dragon-like creatures slow leave as soon as it came, and the world was normal once again.
The whole world was silent and still, waiting for something, anything, to happen, but nothing did.
Crickets started to chirp, merrily, without a care in the world because silence had fallen on where we were at.
My whole body was sore, and I crawled over to Frederick, leaving the sword behind. "Frederick?" I asked the wolf, my voice shaking at seeing the damage that had been done to him. "I need you to open your eyes, please. I need to see if you can be saved."
Frederick groaned and squeezed his eyes tighter. His whole body shook with each breath he struggled to take, and his body was working on overdrive to take care of the poison. However, he did what I asked and opened his eyes to reveal eyes of gray.
Confusion filled his eyes, and I had no idea what all he could understand. He struggled to stand but stopped when I shook my head and placed my hand on one of the few uninjured parts of his body.
"Don't get up," I said. I licked my lips and cleared my throat. "I know that I have a lot to explain, but I will have to explain later. Right now, I need to know if you trust me. So, do you trust me?" My voice became softer while I looked at the wolf, and my heart pounded in fear while I waited for his answer.
Frederick studied me before he slowly nodded his head. He trusted me. He had no idea what I was planning, nor how I knew it was him, but he trusted me.
So with a deep, shuddering breath, I nodded and cleared my throat, relieved. "Ok," I said, taking off my jacket and setting over his body. "Then let's get you taken care of."
