I paused and set my jaw, my heart skipping a beat before it started to pound faster and harder in my chest, and blood started to make its way to my head, creating this weird whooshing sound in my ears that Sylias seemed to ignore. Are you sure, Sylias? I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
I bit back another groan of pain and gritted my teeth tighter while my whole body shifted and became larger and longer than the form I normally carried. I tried to turn in a different direction to relieve some of the pain, but it didn't work and only caused me to feel more pain than I had felt before.
I don't know, Sylias admitted before she cleared her throat, and I had a feeling that she flicked her tail in annoyance and anxiousness because she wanted to help but not knowing how to do so without causing me any more pain. "But it doesn't hurt to try. You are already in pain, and we are in this together."
I gritted my teeth before I slowly nodded and closed my eyes tighter together, deciding that anything would be better than feeling this pain even if it meant that I would be in a different sort of pain. How do I do that? I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
"You got this, Baby Girl," my grandmother soothed softly. "Breathe. Breathe in and out and breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. Control your breathing and control your heartbeat. That should help you."
I held back an eye roll and bit back an annoyed sighed. I didn't say a word to her while I waited for my dragon to say something as to how I could let her take control and feel this pain that we were feeling, even though I had a feeling that she was feeling it already.
Feel the bond that is connected to me, between us, my dragon said in the same tone as me, and then focus on it. She paused and cleared her throat, and I had a feeling that she flicked her tail again but this one because of annoyance since our grandmother was saying something while we shifted. Just focus on that and then nothing around us, ok? You don't need any other distractions besides the bond. That includes not focusing on the pain at least for a little while. Ok?
I hesitated before I slowly nodded and did what I was told to do and started to feel the bond between us. I started to focus on it, and my heart slowly started to grow warm, and the warmth slowly started to spread throughout our whole body.
Good, Sylias said, sighing with relief and slowly started to relax, and I couldn't help but start to relax with her. Keep focusing on the bond and then focus on me. Imagine me coming forward and taking control of our shared mind.
I nodded and did what she told me to do and focused on her coming forward and taking control of our shared body, and letting myself take a back seat for a little while to watch and see what she wanted us to do.
There was this shift while she slowly took control of our shared body and mind, and Targon shifted slightly while he stared at us with an intense look on his face.
"What is it?" my grandmother asked while she raised an eyebrow in question. She looked at Targon, and that raised eyebrow joined the other until she furrowed her brows and cocked her head, studying him. "Why did you shift like that? Is she ok? Did something bad happen to her?"
Targon shook his head and set his jaw, keeping watch over us and making sure that we stayed safe. His whole body was tense, and I could tell that he was worried about us and the thing we were trying to do. "They're becoming one to do this," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "Now, hush, please. There is a chance that they could lose their concentration, and that would be bad for both of them and could cause them to die."
My grandmother didn't say another word and slowly nodded with further furrowed brows. She watched us, and if I was focusing on them and not on Sylias, then I would know that she was getting nervous, anxious even, as if there was something wrong with us that she couldn't control or help me do.
Like Sylias said, I didn't pay attention to them at all but only on my bond with Sylais and taking the back seat, letting her have full control of our shared body. I couldn't help but let out a small sigh of relief when I didn't feel any pain, and at that moment, I could really care less what happened outside of my body because I could finally breathe and have a moment to myself.
Close your eyes, Sylias said, trying but failing to keep the pain out of her voice.
Why? I asked and set my jaw, becoming very nervous, even though I knew that she wouldn't do anything to hurt me because that would mean she would be hurting herself, too. Why do you want me to close my eyes?
Please, Clover, Sylias said, not telling me, and I couldn't help but scoff and roll my eyes while I scowled. She groaned in pain and flicked her tail in annoyance. Close your eyes. When you open them again, you will be a dragon. I will tell you what happened to you, to us, later. I promise, but at this moment, I need you to close your eyes.
Bu-
No, Clover, she said, interrupting me with a small growl in her voice, and I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow in question. I will talk to you about this later. I promise. Now, close them.
I bit back a small groan of annoyance but relented without another word. I took a deep breath and released it with a small whoosh before I closed my eyes, and everything went black and still.
