Someone placed their hand on my neck and started to rub it, and I could feel the vibrations of someone saying something through the pressure that I felt on my neck, and I flicked my tail a little while I slowly started to come to.

Tail...

I had a tail...

My whole body grew tense, and I instantly lifted my head and opened my eyes, looking around with a blurry vision.

What the hell just happened?

I blinked and blinked again, noticing that my senses were very different, especially my eyesight.

It looked like I could see everything up close and in more detail than I could when I was in my human form. I looked around and my gaze landed on Targon, who was standing near me with furrowed brows and pressed lips.

His hand was on the base of my neck, and relief filled his eyes when he saw me look at him. He opened his mouth and said something, even though for some reason, I couldn't hear him.

I slowly blinked and flicked my tail while he looked at me and slowly lifted my head some more, this whole thing feeling new to me, especially since I had a longer neck than normal.

Targon pressed his lips into a thin line and raised an eyebrow in question. He pulled on one of his ears, silently asking me if I could hear him, and I shook my head no while I placed my ears to the back of my head.

Movement happened to my left, and I instantly looked that way to see Andromeda standing there with a concerned look on her face. She asked something to Targon while she kept her gaze on me, and I had a feeling that Targon said something to her, even though I couldn't hear it, much to my annoyance.

My guard moved closer to me to bring my attention back to him, and I looked at him with what I hoped was a confused and annoyed look on my face, hoping that he knew what I was thinking.

He pointed at his head and mouthed, 'Sylias?' as if he knew that I was in control and not my dragon counterpart.

I furrowed my brows and cocked my head further to the side before I flicked my tail in annoyance, wondering what he wanted Sylias for and if she was there.

"Sylias?" I asked and waited for a response like always, but for some reason I couldn't even feel her presence in the back of my mind. "Are you there?"

Nothing...

My eyes grew wide and my heart pounded hard and fast in my chest when I didn't hear my dragon spirit respond right off the bat.

What happened to her? Was she ok?

Panic settled on me like a warm blanket, and I instantly looked at my guard because I couldn't hear her.

She wasn't there.

"Sylias, please. Are you ok?" I asked, praying that she would be able to contact me and tell me that she was safe and fine. "What happened? What's wrong? Please, tell me, are you ok?"

Again, there was nothing from my dragon side.

Shit...

I looked at Targon when he waved to get my attention, and he again pointed at his head silently asking about my dragon spirit and if she was there.

Hesitantly, I shook my head and laid my head down on the ground while I stared at him, silently indicating that I had no idea where she was and that I couldn't feel her like I thought I should.

Targon pressed his lips into a thin line and slowly nodded while worry flashed through his eyes. He looked to his left when my grandmother asked him something and responded to her.

I flicked my tail in annoyance and watched them, not knowing what was going on with my dragon and hearing but prayed that this wouldn't last for a long while and that Targon would know what to do to help me.

Targon looked at me and took another step toward my face. He gestured for me to lift my head a little, and I did what I was told to do and lifted my head just an inch while I stared at him.

Targon placed his hand on my face and started to rub it, and I couldn't help but close my eyes an inch and made this weird rumbling sound that was a mixture between a purr and a growl.

His lip flickered up in an amused smile but he continued to rub my face, flicking his hand until I opened my eyes so that I could look at him fully. 'Do you still trust me, Princess?' he mouthed, asking the question so hesitant as if he was afraid of my answer.

I scoffed a laugh and rolled my eyes, and tried to ignore the question that popped into my head but couldn't.

Was he the reason why Sylias disappeared, and I couldn't hear anything or anyone?

Quickly, I dismissed that question while I pressed my face closer to his hand and closed my eyes all the way in a sign of trust and respect.

With all my life, I thought and wanted to say but couldn't, praying that he knew what I meant by doing this. I trust you with my life, Targon.

I opened my eyes and stared at him, silently telling him with my eyes and hoping that he would understand.

Targon lowered his hand a little toward my nose with relief filling his eyes, and he seemed to take a deep, shuddering breath before he released it with a small whoosh, slowly nodding.

My protector gulped before he cleared his throat, and his Adam's Apple bobbed in his throat as if he was biting back a sob of relief.

Slowly, the other dragon nodded again and licked his lips while relief flashed through his eyes again as if he had been afraid of what my answer could have been, especially since he had been trying to help me but whatever he and Sylias did didn't work like he expected.

Targon bit back a small smile before he nodded, and he moved his hands to my ears, leaving a trace of magic in his hands path while he stared at me with something in his eyes that I couldn't describe. 'Then close your eyes, again, Clove,' he mouthed before he placed his forehead on mine and closed his eyes. 'I will make sure you stay safe. You have my word.'

I hesitated before I did what I was told to do and closed my eyes and waited for him to do what he wanted to do for me.

I trusted him with my life, but while I waited for him to do whatever it was that he wanted to do, I couldn't help but wonder if I was making the right decision.

And unfortunately only time would tell...

And I prayed that this moment wouldn't be my last...
