"Shit," Antonio said with a small gasp, and he flinched back while he took a step back, and I rolled my eyes and scowled, pressing my lips into a thin line while I looked at him. "What the hell?"
"What?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question, narrowing my eyes and scowling. I folded my arms across my chest while I slowly blinked, unamused. "What is that for, Antonio?"
"Did she just disappear?" Antonio asked while he looked between the two of us with wide eyes before he fully stared at me, and I rolled my eyes and pressed my lips into a thinner line. "Like into thin air?"
"Yes," I said and nodded in confirmation. "Did you think that she would not be able to do that?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question.
Antonio bit back a small sheepish smile and rubbed the back of his neck. He cleared his throat and shifted on his feet. "I don't know," he said and shook his head, setting his jaw and pressing his lips into a thin line, and I rolled my eyes and scowled before I looked at Miguel, growing serious.
"Where is Frederick?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question. "I thought he would b-"
There was a hesitant knock on the back door as if they knew we were there, and I looked that way before I looked at Miguel, who snorted, amused.
"That is him," he said and bowed his head with a small smile on his face. "Do you want to go ahead and open the door to let him in?" He raised an eyebrow in question and cocked his head to the side, studying me, and I bit back a tired sigh before I slowly nodded, pursing my lips in annoyance.
"That is some speak of the devil moment," I grumbled before he chuckled and slowly nodded. I walked over to my back door with Targon following me. I didn't look at him while I walked over to the door and opened the door when Frederick was about to knock on the door again.
Frederick's eyes were darker than I had seen them, and he slowly blinked and pressed his lips into a thin line while he stared at me. He set his jaw and slowly blinked while he looked between Targon and I, not saying a word.
I bit back a tired sigh and shook my head, and a headache started to appear out of nowhere. "What do you want, Frederick?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question. "Why are you standing like that and not saying anything?" I gestured to his raised hand as if he was going to knock again but didn't nor did he put his hand down.
"I mean... you did call him over, Clover," Antonio said and gave me a pointed look, pointing out the obvious. "Wouldn't it be what do you want with him instead of the other way around?"
I bit back an annoyed sigh and rolled my eyes but didn't say a word to Antonio while I moved out of Frederick's way, who was still as a statue. "Come in, Frederick," I said tiredly while I rubbed my face. "There is no need for you to be standing like that."
Frederick slowly blinked and lowered his hand. He set his jaw and narrowed his eyes while he studied me, not saying a word, but he did not walk inside like I thought he would.
I sighed, not able to bite it back any longer before I shook my head and pursed my lips in annoyance. "You know what, come in if you want or don't come in because that is up to you. I think I am going to go ahead and take a nap. It had been a very hard and long shift, even if it had only been thirty minutes here."
Frederick hesitated before he slowly nodded and moved toward me, and I stood in one spot while I looked at him with a set jaw. "Are you ok?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper while he moved a hand through his hair and grimaced.
"I need a nap," I said, biting back a tired sigh while I shook my head and pursed my lips in annoyance. "I am annoyed and tired, and I do not know what you want. And... ya." I shrugged and grimaced. "I think I am about to send everyone else home besides Targon, since he is going to be living here with me."
Frederick set his jaw and narrowed his eyes ever so slightly. He looked at Targon before he looked at me, and I could tell that he did not approve of Targon still living in the same house as me with no one else there.
I growled and bared my teeth, narrowing my eyes, and my eyes flashed a different color while I looked at him. "He stays, Frederick," I said with a small hiss in my voice. "I do not know why you are fighting with me on this, again."
Frederick sighed and slowly nodded, relenting. "I know," he said before he cleared his throat and shifted on his feet. "I am sorry," he said and tucked his head closer to his chest while he stared at me. "Can you forgive me?"
I shrugged and grimaced, pressing my lips into a thin line. "I guess," I said and I cleared my throat before I shifted on my feet. "Are you staying while I get some sleep?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question, and Frederick nodded in confirmation.
"Please," he said before he cleared his throat and shifted on his feet. He turned to look at the rest of the group, pressing his lips into a thin line. "Go ahead and leave, please," he said coldly, setting his jaw and narrowing his eyes ever so slightly.
Miguel bowed his head and cleared his throat, biting back a small smile. "Yes, Alpha," he said. He walked over to me and pulled me into a hug, ignoring the fact that I had gotten stiff and didn't hug him back. "Solo sé tú misma, Clover, (Just be yourself, Clover,)" he said, his voice barely above a whisper. He placed a kiss to the side of my bead and let me go. "Déjalo entrar. (Let him in.)" He tucked his head closer to his chest, and I held back an eye roll and set my jaw.
"Él necesita hacer eso primero, (He needs to do that first,)" I grumbled while I folded my arms across my chest and scowled, narrowing my eyes, "porque no tengo idea de dónde estoy con él. (because I have no idea where I stand with him.)"
"English, please," Frederick all but snapped while we talked in Spanish, and we looked at him before we looked at each other, dismissively. "What are you two saying? What are you talking about behind my back?"
"Él te quiere como su Luna y compañera. No pienses diferente. ¿De acuerdo? (He wants you as his Luna and mate. Do not think any differently. Ok?)" Miguel raised an eyebrow in question and cocked his head while he studied me, biting back a small smile.
I shrugged and grimaced, not looking at him while I set my jaw. I didn't say a word and my heart grew heavy, for I had no idea if what Miguel said was true or not, especially since Frederick was still leery about the people I had surrounded myself with.
But that was hard to do...
"Hmph." He tucked his head closer to his chest and offered me a tight smile. "You will understand in time, Clove," he said with a small hum in his voice, and I held back an eye roll and set my jaw.
He cleared his throat and shifted on his feet, growing serious. "Now, Abeula does want you to come visit her whenever you have the chance. Do you remember her house address?" He raised an eyebrow in question, biting back a small smile.
I bit back a tired sigh and slowly nodded, relenting because I knew that he wouldn't take no for an answer. "I do," I confirmed before I cleared my throat and shifted on my feet, pressing my lips into a thin line. "Thank you."
Miguel nodded and tapped my shoulder before he left with the rest of the group, following him after they said their goodbyes, leaving me, my mate, and guard alone.
Oh Gods, please don't let this end badly.
Please...
