Over And Out

Chapter fourteen

Will's breathing was off as Mike pulled him quickly into a hug.  Will tried not to cry but he did anyway.  Joyce was now crying and Hopper got up to hug her.

Everyone looked around at one another while Mike held Will in his arms.  Of course it was a little suspicious but in that moment Mike couldn't find it in him to care.  All he cared about was making Will feel safe.

Eventually Will pulled away but stayed close to Mike on the couch.

"Will, what happened?"  El asks him gently while kneeling down in front of him.  Will shakes his head.

"I don't even know."  He sighs and wipes his face off, "it was so weird.  It all happened to fast."

"What did?"  Lucas asks.

"I was obviously back in the upside-down."  Will looks to the floor next to El, "once I got there the vines wrapped around me and lifted me into the air.  Vecna began taunting me about things..."  Will let his voice trail off at the end but continued with his story, "It only took a few minutes before the vines broke.  I think he was to distracted with making me feel angry or upset or whatever he was trying to do.  But he tried choking me, to kill me.  It was weird, he like flew backwards and fell and the vines wrapped around him.  Nothing else really happened, I just ran."  Will doesn't say anything else and everyone looks around at each other.

"Mike.."  Nancy says quietly.  Mike sighs.

"We don't think that's a coincidence."  Mike says quietly.  Will looks at him.

"What?"

"We think you have powers, like El.  But they only work in the upside-down."  He says carefully.  He knew that if Will got to upset or angry something might happen again.

Will shook his head, "that's not possible.  I didn't when I was younger.  That doesn't make sense.  You all are wrong."  Will snaps at all of them.  Mike put a hand on Wills shoulder.

"Just listen.  Please?"  Mike asks him quietly.  Will doesn't say anything, he was still tense but Mike continued, "when the monster attached itself to you, it was sent by Vecna to do it.  Or maybe it was Vecna was possessed you.  We aren't sure.  But, we think that when that happened some of Vecnas powers somehow transferred to you.  But because it was so vague, the powers only work in the upside down." 

Will didn't say anything.  He was listening to every word carefully.  He knew they were probably right.  It sounded right.  But he was in denial.  He didn't want powers.  He didn't want any of this.

But he knew he couldn't hide from it anymore.  He had to face these problems without knowing the outcome.  That's what scared him the most.

"What now?"  Will asks them quietly. 

"We don't know, kid."  Hopper says quietly.

"Well we need to figure it out before something happens to Will."  Jonathan says.

"What if when Vecna goes into Wills mind again so does El?  Like with Max, but this time he's going up against Will and Eleven?"  Nancy asks the group.  Everyone seemed to be on board except Mike.

"No way!"  He says while standing up.  "We're not risking that!"

"Mike."  Will says quietly.  Mike didn't listen to him though.

"We were trying to prevent this, that's why Will stayed here while we all left!  We're not going to make El and Will fight him alone after seeing what happened with Max!"  He says, upset and angry at everyone.

"Don't bring Max into this!"  Lucas shoved him.

Mike shoves him back.  "Don't touch me!"

"Both of you knock it off!"  Hopper yells at them.  Lucas looks to the ground and Mike gives him a death glare.

"We can't do this."  Mike repeats.  Will finally stands up and grabs Mikes arm.

"Come on, we're going to go talk."  He says while leading Mike to the old bedroom.  Mike doesn't object as Will closes the door behind him, leaving everyone else confused.

"Mike, we don't have any other option."  He says while looking at him.  Mike looks to the floor.

"I don't want anything to happen to you, Will!"  Mike felt like he was about to cry but he didn't allow himself to.

"Nothing is going to happen to me."  Will says quietly while stepping closer to him.

"That's what we thought about Max!  You don't understand."  Mikes voice broke and Will debated on his decision.  He takes another step closer to Mike and Mike finally looks at him, they were now inches apart.

"I do understand Mike."  He says quietly.

"I don't want anything bad to happen to you. I can't live without you."  He lets out a shaky breath.

Will didn't know what to respond to that with.  He wanted to hug him but he didn't want things to be awkward.

But before he had much time to think, Mike was the one who pulled him into a hug.  Will was somehow surprised but he hugged him back tightly.

"That's why nothing will happen to me."  He says quietly.  "I won't leave you."

"Promise?"  Mike pulls away from him to ask.  Will smiles at him.

"I promise."
