I turned my head in search of the source of the sound only to see Mr Spencer smiling with his phone pointing at me. I laughed
"Dah bredda yah man, yah wah?battyman?" I asked
He said nothing, just smiled and showed me the picture.
I downed the rest of my champagne.
The evening started on a high note, one could even say it was fun. He and his friends were okay company. They definitely know how to party, you'd think given the formality it would have been different but I'm surprised to see no white powder being passed around.
Cya put nutn pass dem type a people yah eno.
I stood on my phone, segregated from the rest while they exchanged their farewells. Mr Spencer came up to me.
"Thank you for coming Jazariah." He said.
" Nuh badda feel too special a sorry mi did feel sorry fi yuh." I said smiling which got him smiling aswell.
"Let me walk you to your car." He said to which I complied. The silence was unusually peaceful, I smiled beneath the street lights relishing the embrace of the cool night air that raised goosebumps on my skin. I chuckled knowing something my mother would say if I were caught in a situation like this.
"Keep yuh chest warm before yuh catch up draft."
I let out a breath not realizing how loud it would have been.
"You okay?" He asked.
"Yea man mi good." I replied regaining my smile.
He looked as if he didn't believe but didn't press further.
"Thanks again, drive safely and let me know when you reach home." He said
"Arite boss." I said and made my way off the premises.
" Make a right turn at Park Avenue and continue along the main road." The G.P.S voice said
"Di fuck, yah gwaan like mi nuh know how fi reach a mi fucking yaad." I said and lightly hit the screen.
Blasted cheap shit.
The light of my phone distracted me from completely going off when I realized that the G.P.S malfunction I thought I had was a result of my elbow pressing against it. I folded my lips trying to contain my embarrassed laugh when I noticed some people on the sidewalk before me. Some one was being ganged up on.
Oh well, we live and we learn.
The area enroute to my house wasn't exactly the best part of town so witnessing these things wasn't bizzare. What was bizzare, was the person who was being ganged up on. It was a girl, against three guys. I immediately slowed the car, contemplating if it was really worth it.
