violet had asked for annie to drop her off at the triplets. she knocked on the door. and chris opened it. "are nick and matt here?" she asked.

"are you okay?" chris asked seeing the puffy eyes and the smeared mascara.

"answer me."

"no. they're out with mom and dad. why what's wrong?"

"i need to talk. please."

"yeah, come in." chris said. the two went up to his room. she sat on the bed as he closed his door. "what's wrong, vi?"

"can we sit in silence for a little while i collect my mind." violet asked her voice cracking.

"yeah. yeah. of course." chris said sitting down beside her silence came over the room for about five minutes.

"i uh— i used to be a completely different person. honestly i wasn't a good person. i had this problem. i used to party late and drink all the time. and one night my parents caught me." she said before gulping. her hands shaking slightly.

chris looked down at them and put his hand on hers comfortingly. "you don't have to share this if you don't want to." chris said quietly to his best friend.

violet looked at him a smile came over her face. "no, i need to." she said licking her lips nervously. "but you have to promise you won't look at me differently."

"i promise." chris said nodding.

"okay. um. my parents came and picked me up from the party. i was drunk and angry. i was yelling telling them i hated them and next thing i knew there was a huge bang on the side of the car sending us rolling. i blacked out but my parents died on the spot. um. and i just lost my grandma today. and i don't know how to feel." she said historically.

"it's not your fault." chris said watching as his best friend cried. her whole body trembling. he pulled her in she was sobbing on his shoulder. "i love you, vi. you're my best friend and i want you to know none of it was your fault. you were a kid. you might feel guilty but the person who hit you guys was the person who killed them. not you." chris said crying with her.

"i love you." she said her grip on his shirt tightened.
