Next Day - Northside Beacontown - BPD Station

Lukas' POV

"Any updates on the robbery the other night?" Asked Chief Conall.

I already knew Jess was involved but HOW she got away with it is my main question. Still, they didn't figure out the suspect yet. Luckily.

Yeah, my job could be at stake if someone found out that I was covering up for the you-know-who. Unfortunately, that person was someone who used to be close for a while. She wasn't always like this. Back when my fiancé was alive, he would take the blame for something big his sister had done. Usually she was pretty shy and nervous around her surroundings and I wouldn't blame her considering what they been through.

I guess growing up in a tough environment means risking everything including himself to protect his sister from losing her.

Now she's all I have ever left of her brother. They were really close back then...

Flashback

1998 - Somewhere in the Outskirts - 8:00 pm

(In this flashback, Jesse is male)

Me and Jesse were out alone together, sitting on top of the cliff, getting the magnificent view of the city from above. It was really nice and quiet from our spot.

"I don't think I've heard the sound of crickets chirping that often." Said Jesse.

"It's really relaxing to hear when it gets dark." I smiled.

"I could get used to this! It's better than having to sleep through the sounds of riots and arguments every night!"

"I was wondering...is South side really that...well...what's it like for you and your little sister?"

"Hmm...it's practically a war zone. Too many people got shot or beaten to death out of nowhere so it's best to say that it's not a friendly place like the other side where you cane from. That's why me and Jess moved here, thanks to you."

"It's no big deal, really."

"Though, I do miss my best friend. She may be a little scary, but she's all cool!"

I lightly punched him in the arm playfully, "I thought I'M your best friend!"

Jesse chuckled and started to take hold of my hand, "C'mon, don't tell me you've already forgotten that you're my boyfriend!"

"You know that I was just messing around!" I laughed before placing a kiss on his cheek.

"I wish my old home was like this everyday...then Jess wouldn't be have to see some bad shit what a kid shouldn't see...I wanted her to have a better childhood than mine because all I've been doing as a kid, I was no different from them! After mom died...for the first time ever, my conscience just suddenly got into my head...then I looked at her...I've become desperate. All of a sudden I've come into my senses.

I was a total dick to her but by the time there's only the two of us, I realized she's the only one I have left of me. I figured that the two of us wouldn't survive in this shithole alone. I've seen many kids that young didn't even make it past elementary. I didn't want to be next...no...not my sister. Not her. Ever."

"I may not have siblings but that explains why you seemed to be protective of her."

"She was only a few months old at that time, I was just 6, maybe and a half. Crazy right? You could say I raised her like a dad." Jesse smiled nervously as he reached the back of his neck.
