"WHERE WOULD you spend your Christmas, Akari-chan?" Nanami inquired as she and Akari were having lunch at their homeroom. Their arm desks were facing each other while eating their own bentos. They couldn't take their midday meals at their usual hang-out on the school's rooftop due to the chilly climate.
"Probably just here in Yokohama," Akari replied casually and took a bite of her tamagoyaki (eng. rolled omelet). Another month had slipped off the calendar since the events of the School Festival. Christmas Eve was also just around the corner, and so was the upcoming winter season. The weather would be extremely cold in the next few weeks. "What about you, Nana-chan?"
"My folks and I will be visiting my grandparents in Hokkaido."
Akari took a sip of her strawberry milk and hummed. It must feel really nice to spend your Christmas with your loved ones and have a fun time together, huh? "That's good. Have a great time there."
Nanami smiled. "Thank you." She glanced down at the ravenette's bento which looked quite fancy for her chocolate eyes. It had chicken croquette, tamagoyaki, tomatoes, broccoli, stir-fried spinach, and onigiri rice balls. "Your lunch looks really delicious, Akari-chan! Are you the one who cooked those?"
"Oh, these? No. Iza prepared them for me. They're last night's leftovers." Ever since she began to live alone in Yokohama, Izana would oftentimes prepare a lunchbox for her to bring to her school. It would either be leftovers from last night's cooking or something he bought from a convenience store if he didn't have much time to make one. He would reprimand her similar to a stern father whenever he caught her eating processed foods or instant noodles and told her many times to always watch out for her health.
Akari may excel in almost everything, only except cooking. She had actually zero cooking skills. Most of the foods she made were not edible enough for both human and animal consumption. And for that reason alone, she had been relying on Izana's cooking for everyone's sake. Even with his teaching, she still had a hard time doing it in practice, much to his chagrin.
The only food that she was truly successful in making was porridge.
Nanami was amazed at the discovery. "Really? Your guy cooked it for you? Wow! You have a great boyfriend, Akari-chan!"
"Yeah, Izana is such a great person," Akari agreed thoughtfully.
"I wish I have a sweet and matured boyfriend like yours," Nanami sighed dreamily. "Where could I ever find one?"
"Isn't there a guy in your music club who's close to you ever since the day you joined in?"
"Oh, you mean Shirogane-kun?" She laughed, shaking her head in rebuttal. "Oh, no. That's impossible. We're just very close friends. Also, he's not into girls."
