(again please no hate)

BOOM

He ran from the smoke and jumped off the balcony, landing feet first on the cobbled road below and ran off before any guards could realize. Shouts erupted from behind him, gunshots grazing his skin. Un-fucking-beleviale. They were really getting all upset because he borrowed a few crystals? Tch. He didn't have time to waste with anyone today. He ducked down into an alleyway, quickly throwing on his usual beggar disguise and watched in silent amusement as the guards ran right past him. When the sound of overly polished boots clopping against the street died out in the distance, the blonde emerged from the alleyway and headed towards the east side of town.

The big white ivory and brick buildings grew smaller as he walked, the streets becoming uneven with potholes every twenty or so steps. Boarded windows in empty homes greeted him as he made it to his destination, a house on the outskirts of the middle class district, the last with lights on and some semblance of happiness, a beacon of hope on a desolate and dirty street. He opened the heavy door and was greeted with the aroma of pancakes and bacon and instantly his stomach churned with anticipation.

"Hey nerd, I'm home!" He called out as he kicked off his muddy boots and shrugged out of his tattered coat, hanging it on the coat rack. A soft giggle came from the kitchen and he followed it, smiling as he saw his work partner wearing a faded blue apron, his glasses dangerously close to slipping off as he was rolling out dough. Flour dusted his freckled cheeks and clothes and Bakugo couldn't suppress a laugh of his own as he walked up behind the shorter male and hugged him, resting his head on the mess of green hair his partner had for hair.

"You're late, were you still working on that robot again?"

Bakugo hummed, loosening his hold so Midoriya could continue his cooking, "Maybe, hey, once dinner's done why don't we eat outside tonight? The stars look pretty tonight."

Midoriya nodded and Bakugo headed upstairs to their bedroom to get changed. Something felt wrong, he wasn't sure but his mind was foggy with worry. If only he had realized sooner...

He shrugged out of his thoughts as he sat down on the bed, pulling out the crystals from his pocket. They shined a bright green, just like Midoriya's eyes. Opening his side table drawer, he pulled out a box and smiled as he opened it and put the crystals inside. Soon, he thought, he would finally be able to give the man the gift of his dreams. He changed into more comfortable clothes, still a few layers thick due to the cold, and headed back down the stairs, each one creaking under his weight. He went into the kitchen to watch as Midoriya finished making what looked like meat pies. They were put in the oven and Midoriya leaned against the counter, jolting slightly when Bakugo pulled him into his arms.

"Smells good, have I ever told you how much I love your cooking?"

Midoriya laughed softly, though it sounded hollow, "Only every night Kacchan." He laid his head on the taller man's shoulder, sighing as the day started to catch up with him. "You know, I think the stars are pretty tonight too, we should eat on the balcony like in the summer."

"I couldn't agree more, I'll bring all the blankets out so we don't get cold." Bakugo was off before he could even think about anything else, excitement warmed him along with all the moving as he tracked down every blanket in the home. He had a pile of twenty-nine on the bare balcony when he was done and he worked on layering the heaviest ones on the floor to make it more comfortable to sit on, saving a few quilts to cover up with along with the sheets he brought. He grabbed pillows from his bed and arranged them in a way most pleasing before returning downstairs to check in on Midoriya, brows furrowing when he saw the other leaning over the sink.

"Hey nerd... are you alright?" He carefully approached as Midoriya turned on the sink and filled up a glass with water, gulping it down.

"I'm alright I promise," he smiled and returned to his post by the oven, checking to see if their supper was ready.

Bakugo couldn't shake the feeling off this time, but he trusted if anything serious was wrong, midoriya would tell him immediately and he headed to the parlor for a smoke, desperately needing it after the day he had. He lit a cigar and sat down in his chair, enjoying the warmth of the fire in front of him. "You left early today, did you remember to buy parts for the shop? We're running low on bolts again."

"Yes, I ordered a shipment of all the parts you had on the list, Tetsutetsu said he'll ship it over Thursday."

Thursday, three days from now. Three days and then he gives Midoriya his gift, three, long, antagonizing, days. "Good, although that's cutting it a bit close don't you think? The convention is Friday morning." Not that he was worried, they may have not had the best reputation at conventions, but he was certain this was going to be it, this was going to be their greatest invention and he'd have enough money from it to give Midoriya the life he deserved. The life they both deserved. He took in a long drag of the cigar, blowing out the smoke and coughing softly. He really needed to quit these.

The smell of fresh pie just out of the oven drew him back into the kitchen and he leaned against the doorway to watch Midoriya put the finishing touches on them before he helped bring them upstairs. The air whipped and bit at them, causing them both to shiver as they settled in to eat. The balcony had a beautiful view of the river that flowed through Asteria, and of the fields that separated the district they lived in from the Cloud District, where famous inventors and musicians lived along with the aristocracy.
