It was a typical Sunday for Izuku, he was laying on the couch in the dorms common room, book in hand and reading. Suddenly a familiar crimson stemmed white rose was in front of his face, distracting him from the words on the page. "Todoroki! Hey I was reading." The male laughed, looking up at his friend who was resting against the back of the couch, a sleepy smile on his beautiful face.
"Yes and you looked very cute focussing on the words, but I noticed you didnt have a bookmark and thought this pretty flower might serve as an excellent place holder. You know they used to put pressed flowers in books and letters?" Ah, another attempt from Todoroki to give his heart flower to Midoriya, he was very persistent in his efforts, each try becoming more irresistible than the previous one. But Midoriya still only smiled and turned down the offer.
Though his smile faltered slightly at yet another rejection, Todoroki knew there would always be tomorrow, or the day after that and patted Midoriya's head before letting him return to his book. He couldn't help but notice the soft giggle that left his friend, how could someone be so cute? Todoroki smiled a bit himself as he left to go to his room. In the halls however, were flower petals and the distinct sound of crying.
Following the trail of faded petals, Todoroki found they led to a bedroom no one's been allowed to enter in weeks, not even the owners best friends were allowed in and the group of said friends were standing there now, distressed. "Come on man, please let us in! We know you stopped eating again... just at least come get the takeout we brought." Kirishima said, holding a bag with the logo for a local Thai restaurant.
Why was Bakugo crying? What was with the flower petals? Todoroki walked into a situation he didn't understand, and he was concerned now too. How did he not notice?
"What's wrong? Why won't he let you in?" Todoroki asked as he properly approached the teens. However, they all seemed to give him a cold look. "D-did I do something?" He then asked, only getting the cold shoulder from his classmates. Feeling uncomfortable in his current predicament, Shoto went to his room. What had he done? Was it really his fault Bakugo was crying? What was he missing from this picture?
While Shoto sat with heavy questions weighing him down, Katsuki's stomach growled at him to get over his childish feelings and start taking care of himself. In truth, the ash blonde was pretty hungry having skipped out on meals and only drank the bare minimum water. He wasnt taking things good. In his hands was the stem of a once beautiful flower, now only one very faded teal petal remained and it was slowly killing Bakugo to know his love was being taken from him.
Why was that Half and Half bastard even determined to be with that dumb nerd anyway?
Reluctantly, the ash blonde let his friends in, only after putting the flower back under his pillow. No one was allowed to find out about that, he hated the thought of losing what he felt was his only salvation. He would nurture that flower later, or at least try to. Right now, he just needed a distraction and if anyone was good at that, it was his dumbass friends.
Glad to be allowed back in, the bakusquad happily returned to their chaotic shenanigans in hopes it'll cheer up Bakugo which it did. The male laughed at jokes, catching up on news with his friends and just really had a good time, having secretly missed the dorks that followed him. Once they left to get ready for bed, Katsuki too left and headed to the kitchen for something to drink with his Thai food.
Still Laying there reading on the couch was Midoriya, though he was accompanied by a few girls who were talking about boys and romance. Midoriya hadn't been paying attention to them and had no clue they were discussing him.
Despite that though, he did know there was a girl laying on him, Ochako of course. He hadn't minded though, he had learned he was a huge comfort for his classmates, they trusted him and being near them made them all happier and feel safer. He was more than happy to be that source of comfort, as it was also a hero's job to help those in times of emotional distress.
If anyone was emotionally distressed though, it would be the ash blonde who saw Izuku cuddle Ochacko. His heart sank as he misinterpreted what was happening. His comfort, his salvation, was being taken from him right before his eyes and he was powerless to stop it, couldn't even function properly as he choked on his own breath and coughed violently for a few minutes.
Izuku was no longer his, what did this mean for Bakugo? His heart was on the line here and it hurt so much, the pain in his chest made the pain he received in training feel like tickles.
Bakugo almost couldn't breathe with the realization, the air becoming thick with silence and his mind full of thoughts. He decided to not get a drink and locked himself back in his room. He looked at the remains of the flower under his pillow, that one petal only fading in color more. The ash blonde whispered a soft prayer that the flower would still be there when he awoke and then ate his takeout before passing out and sleeping.
The next day rolled around and everyone got ready and headed out for school, chatter of various topics being heard through the halls as the class walked to their classroom. It was no surprise to Izuku when Todoroki was sitting at his desk. "I have a present for you." The taller male said with a smile before giving Izuku a rather small box. While the smaller boy was greatful, he wasn't sure if he should accept the gift, but did anyway. "Thanks Todoroki, I'll look at it during lunch." Izuku said, sitting in his seat when Shoto left it.
Bakugo had watched the exchange with dread, just another gift from Shoto, another thing to make Izuku want him more. Bakugo was starting to be crushed by it all, this wasn't healthy for him, the torture of knowing the end was near. Could he even repair what's been broken in time to save himself? Probably not. He wanted to try but it wouldn't be genuine, he's only be doing it to save himself from the ache in his heart.
Izuku was oblivious to the panicked frenzy of his friend, only caring about the gift in his hands. Was it the flower? Had Shoto finally given away his heart? Izuku knew that couldn't have been possible as the Orange dandelion in his pocket hadn't disappeared yet, though when he pulled it out it was wilting slowly. What did this mean for Bakugo?
Izuku looked up at his ash blonde friend, finding he was trembling in his seat, though it was very small movements, easily missed to the untrained eye. Was he crying? Cold? Izuku was confused by this.
In his mind, he took the wilting flower as just Bakugo losing feelings. However, in his his heart, he knew it was himself who had lost feelings. Maybe this was a reaction to that? Izuku sighed, he knew he shouldn't have just given up his flower all because Bakugo gave him his. They were kids, ignorant to how things really worked, raised on the belief that good things stayed because that's how childhood worked.
After morning classes, Izuku headed to the cafeteria so he could finally see what Shoto gave him. The small gift had distracted almost as much as Bakugo had, this couldn't be coincidental. Sitting at his group's table, Izuku pulled out the small red box from his backpack. "What could he have gotten me now?" He asked the box and opened it, finding that beautiful crimson stemmed white rose, only now the stem was twisted into a circle as if to make a ring with the flower being the jewel.
A soft gasp left him, it was stunning honestly, how dare Todoroki make such a gift out of his flower.
As Izuku tried to fight the temptation of putting on the ring, Katsuki could already tell it was over as he watched the green haired male from his table. His heart was pounding in fear and agony, he had seen the flower under his pillow wilt away to nothing left, and now he would feel his heart do the same as Izuku slid the flower on his finger.
There was a moment, a single instance when pain crossed Izuku's face and he mouthed something though Katsuki could make out what. Then, there was peace. Izuku looked happier than ever as if he had been chained down but was set free. Bakugo only felt pain choking him, his hands pressed to his chest to try and suppress the sudden sting that seemed to burn his very core. Was this what it felt like? Was this what being replaced was?
He looked back over at Izuku, the smile he adored ten times as bright now. At least he was happy...
