Chapter 12

You walked next to Ghost eating some crackers that he had given you and you looked around as the sand you were walking on had started to become grass . you were now entering texas after you had all woken up at the crack of ass and decided to get going early . Ghost had carried you for a bit while he let you sleep for a little more . he had gotten good sleep as well but Ghost had a bruise on his arm from when he had tapped Ghost to wake him up and Ghost got startled not knowing who it was and he punched the shit out of soaps arm leaving a nice bruise to swell .
Soap grumbled something as he tripped on a rock and he laughed .
'' how's your arm soap ?.''
You asked while pointing to the black patch of skin on his arm.
'' don't know ask Ghost .'' soap said while looking at Ghost.
Ghost gave an emotionless stare and you looked at him and soap .
'' well it wasn't his fault you scared him , i would've done the same thing probably .''
You shrugged your shoulders .
'' true..''
Soap said quietly .
'' hey does anyone have a wife here besides old man price .''
You smirked .
'' how the hell did you know i had a wife ?.''
Price turned his head towards you .
'' lucky guess .''
You said .
'' No one here besides price has a wife .''
Gaz said .
'' oh , bros before hoes i see.''
You smirked .
'' where do you get this from .''
Ghost said while shaking his head .
'' my ass .''
You giggled .
'' soap are you sure this aint like your long lost kid or some shit , she says things you would say.''
Gaz said while looking at you and back at soap .
'' who knows .''
Price said .
Diggs sniffed around and kept walking with you guys .
It has been a week since you have been with them and you've been loving it so far . cracking jokes was your specialty and they even think you like soap but also like Ghost at the same time.you had been walking for a few hours and you took in all the new sights . you were in a grassy area and it had a few bushes lying around but it was just mostly grass everywhere.you enjoyed the earthy smell of it all and you asked many questions and you made jokes as always. The others were shocked at how you were able to get Ghost laugh but yet again they were surprised how Ghost let you be extremely close to him. your pants were a bit dirty but that was the least of your problems . It was sunny and hot out, but the sun didn't bother you much. You had killed multiple mutants along your way with you and you had kept safe for the most part . Ghost had kept quiet for most of the trip which wasn't a shocker but it made you wonder what he was thinking about . Ghost was also thinking about many things as well . He thought about how you were able to make him happy . He would never admit it but you did . it's like you were family to him. It took almost over three years for Ghost to trust soap fully but with you it only took a few days . you were kinda like a daughter to him , the one that he never had . He had kept to himself about this . He had the picture of you and him on his phone since soap had sent it to him . He didn't admit it but he liked that picture a lot . After years of trauma and keeping quiet to himself and being stone cold he had finally had something that made him perk up. You looked at all the nature with awe and you started to pick up the pace and you started to run around a bit . this reminds you of when Ghost had taken you outside to the area where you would  run around. There was a fence around that but now you were truly free and got to explore new things . the others let you be since they saw how you were happy and didn't want to bother you plus they were alert and ready to kill at any given moment . Diggs ran around with you and his tail wagged. You smiled and held your arms out and you just breathed .
'' enjoying the outside i see .''
Ghost spoke .
'' hell yeah , this is so much fun .''
You spoke while running back to them .
'' Well, be careful now , we can't afford to get any one of us killed . ''
Price said and you nodded in understanding and you walked back to them and walked next to Ghost with Diggs .
'' how much longer until we reach like one of those neighborhoods soap was talking about .''
You said while looking up at Ghost.
'' about two more hours and will probability come across many houses and such .''
He said,
'' wait what's in those houses ?.''
You asked .
'' its kinda like base but better .''
Soap spoke .
He was right , it was better living conditions but the base did its normal job perusal . you didn't know really but you couldn't wait to see the neighborhoods regardless of the dead lying around .You threw Diggs a cracker and he caught it and munched away . you had fed Diggs half of your rations since he needed to eat as well . you didn't know what it was about but f/c flowers made you happy . many things made you happy but you couldn't hide from your dark past . Sometimes you woke up in the middle of the night next to Ghost and you sat there thinking , trying to forget your shitty past but there was no use to that . it was difficult but you knew you were safe.....for now . Ghost had picked up on tiny movements and things that you did that resolved from trauma . when someone raised their hands you either flinched or your grip on your knife tightened to the point your knuckles would turn white . it was the way you stood alert but if someone raised their voice you would become tense , reasoning Ghost was always so calm with you . you didn't know but Ghost cared about you deeply . he cared for you and he didn't know why he felt so attached . you reminded him of something and he didn't know what it was . all he knew is that he had to protect you and keep you safe . he wished you didn't have to see the horrors of the world at such a young age and he wished that you didn't have to do what you do but he was glad that you still had a sense of humor even in the worst of times such as now . he didn't have family to worry about since well...there dead but he had you and his squad to worry about . The others didn't show it but they were afraid , they were afraid for their families and hoped at least they were safe . you tried to find light , as shuri told you once , when you are deep in the darkness, always look towards the light . it was a saying she would tell you when things were really bad but when with her it was different it was almost a feeling and sense of security when you were in that hell hole . you didn't have a normal life and you didn't get to do what most kids should have done at your age but at least you have your sense of humor . Gaz thinks that your soaps long lost child since you have his humor but hey at least Gaz and the others are trying to keep somewhat busy.
'' so irish springs ...''
You smirked at soap.
'' what the hell , where'd you get that from .''
He chuckled .
'' i saw the soap in the bathroom and it said irish springs and your scottish and your codename is soap so its self explanatory , Ghost told me about you being a scott.''
You giggled .
'' fuckin hell ...''
He breathed out while giggling as well.
There was a long way to go but you had two more hours left which shouldn't be too bad but you didn't know what lies ahead.
