I was perfectly fine in dreamland, when some idiot decided to shake me awake. I opened my eyes to see Regulus staring down at me, I glared at him. The bastard just smiled.

"Get up, we're almost there and you still haven't changed" he said.

I groaned and reluctantly got up from the seat. I turned to face Reg who had sat down and his face was covered by whatever book he was reading this time. "Can you hand me my robes, please?"

he didn't even look up from his book, just handed them to me. I didn't want to go to the loo to change, it was on the other side of the train. So I just started undressing in the compartment, Reg and I have known eachother since first year, I've seen that boy in his under-pants endless times. He says he doesn't like the way his clothes confined him. We're comfortable with each other. He doesn't even look up from his book when I'm changing.

"You know, people would die to be in your position right now" I tell him, fumbling with my tie. He looks up rather bored and looks at my now clothed body up and down. He furrows his brows and purses his lips.

"would they tho....would they?" The little bastard mocks. I just smack his arm as I feel the train stop. He just chuckles and takes both of our trunks.

Alright, he might be an idiot, but he was a gentleman too. It's a balance.

We walked to the carriages in silence, but before we could get in I froze. In front of the carriages were these skeleton-like creatures, their skin was gray, and their wings almost resembled those of a bat, just bigger in size, their eyes were a cloudy white, and their skin was tightly snug to their bones. They were beautifully unsettling. I knew what they were, I've read about them.

Thestrals...Beings that can only be seen if you've witnessed death.

The remainder hit me harder than I expected, I felt tears starting to form and I blinked them away. There's no way I'm going to lose my composure because of a dead looking horse, no sir.

Now that I think about it, it's sad that these animals don't get appreciated. They are invisible to almost everyone around them, the only way they can be seen is if the person has been a witness of something as vile as death.

It must get lonely.

With that in mind I carefully reached out my hand to the closest one. It was eating something off the floor, it must have sensed me because it rose to it's full height and backs away a little. I kept my hand out to show that I wasn't a threat.

After a few seconds, it approached hesitantly and sniffed my hand, but then gave in and nudged my hand. I smiled and let my hand wander to its side. Their skin felt weird, it was kinda leathery, rough but smooth at the same time, they didn't have fur and I could feel every bone in it's body.

The eyes tho... the ayes are the most captivating, they are a cloudy white, they kinda put you in a trance of sorts. I could see my reflection in them.

A hand waving in front of my face pulled me out of my trance. I looked at Regulus who was looking at me like I belonged in the loony bin.

"why in the ever living fuck are you caresing the air?" he asks, he looks so confused. but I just smile and mumble "no reason".

I get in the carriage and Reg follows behind, luckily it was empty. When I sit down Reg automatically lays on my lap and we begin our way to Hogwarts.

Hogwarts...I missed it.
