I woke up startled, my breath coming out in such harsh pants that my lungs were starting to burn, my skin felt clammy, and my throat hurts as if I was screaming all night. Fucking Nightmares.
I took a couple of breaths to calm myself before looking around the dorm.
My roommates were not in the dorm tonight, they told me they were staying with their boyfriends - The two of them have been dating the Prewett twins since they were in their third year, and the twins in their fourth - so I was alone with my thoughts.
That's never good.
I laid back down and closed my eyes snuggling into the covers to see if I could fall back asleep. After a whole hour of no sleep coming to me I sighed and stood up. When I look out the window it was still dark outside, which leads me to believe I only slept for a few of hours.
I put on my silky navy blue night gown and slip on my matching robe - I obviously can't forget my cozy bunny slippers - and after I grab my wand I make my way to the kitchens.
The walk was silent, not even the sound of Filch and his god awful cat would be heard. When I got to the kitchens it was empty - all the house elves were probably asleep. After taking my robe off, putting my hair up and securing it with my wand, and getting all the ingredients I needed on the table. I went to the sink and washed my hands.
We're making cinnamon rolls tonight!
I was so focused on my task that I didn't notice the kitchen entrance opening and a very groggy James Potter stepping thought it.
"Delilah, was it?" Startled, I turn around with a scream, swinging the batter covered spoon in the direction of the voice. James Potter stood there eyes wide and hands up in surrender. "Potter! What the fuck!?" I yelled.
"Im sorry! I didn't mean to scare you" he stammered, His tanned skin flushing a light red. I sighed and apologized for yelling at him to which he just shrugged with a smile.
"What are you doing here?" I asked him, returning to my task.
He stayed quiet for a minute before clearing his throat and stuttering out a response. "I-I...Pete-" he started but then cut himself off.
Confused at this response I turned to him, raising an eyebrow when I caught his eyes snapping up from wherever they were. He adverted his eyes to the ceiling and started nibbiling on his lip.
I smiled amused "Pete...what?" I teased. James reached up and ruffled his hair - rather attractively if I may add - and sighed finally looking at me, his expression was sheepish, quite a weird sight if i'm honest, he's always strutting around the school with a stance that gave out confidence.
"I might have forgotten." he admitted coyly.
I smiled at him for the first time ever. It's not that I don't like him, we just didn't run in the same crowd. He's a bit intimidating, when you look at him from a far all you see if this tall, muscular Quidditch player, always playing pranks on people, being loud, and walking around with an almost arrogant confidence.
But seeing him standing right in front of me stuttering and blushing like a timid schoolgirl makes me wonder how many sides to James Potter there are. He seems to relax a little when I smiled at him, I pointed at the stool on the other side of the counter and he sat down.
"what are you doing?" he asked, leaning forward in his seat to look at the pan. I looked at him and finally took him in, He was wearing a white tank top - that did absolutely nothing to hide his bulging muscles - red pajama pants with little snitches all over them, his beautiful dark brown hair looked messier than ever and his hazel eyes were droopy behind his circled glasses.
I swear this man is from another universe.
It was my turn to clear my throat. "Im making cinnamon rolls" I tell him, before leaning down to put the pan in the oven, my night gown rides up a little but I still make sure to remain covered. "Maybe you can take one to Peter, since you forgot your reason of being here." I make fun of him, only getting a hum in return.
"Yeah...Pete" I hear him mumble. I close the oven and turn to him with a smile on my face, which only grows when I see him snap his yes up once again. "You alright there, Potter?" I chuckle.
His face turns beet red this time as he franticly nods. He's adorable.
I walk over to the stool next to his and sit laying my chin on my hand as I wait for the cinnamon rolls to be ready. The silence that comes over us is not awkward - which is surprising since this is the first time we've talked alone- James is laying his head on his closed arms with his eyes shut.
"I forgot to ask- why are you baking at three in the morning?" he quietly asks. I shrug before realizing he can't see me. "couldn't sleep" I mumble the reply. He seems to find my answer acceptable and just nods opening his eyes.
"Do you like me?" he suddenly asked, I turn my head to him raising my eyebrows.
"N-Not like that! I mean- when we first met you didn't look like you wanted to talk to me, which is fine because we don't know each other at all, and I don't blame you. It's just that you talked to remus so normally and when you turned to us you closed off, Not that it isn't ok, honestly I would have talked to Remus and ignored me too. Remus is the best, I get why you wanted to talk to him....Im going to shut up now." He rambled.
I laughed at him, "Potter, Im not a very social person, and you are the definition of outgoing. You intimidated me quite a bit" he tilts his head to the side, confused. "it was nothing against you" I reassure him just as the oven dings.
I get the rolls out and put the icing over them before storing them, making sure to give him two. He smiles gratefully and nods at me "Thank you, Delilah" he says.
I shake my head and tell him "You can just call me Lilah"
"Lilah" he tests smiling, "Call me James" he starts walking backwards to the entrance.
I smile at him "Sleep well, James"
He walks out with a smile and i'm left alone again.
I sigh and start clean up, trying not to think about the way my heart felt a little less heavy when he smiled at me.
