Chapter 16

Chris and I helped Chris' father out of the dungeon and as soon as we were out, we all shifted to our wolf forms. As we burst out of the mansion, Anthony was waiting for us, and he was in his wolf form. Wow, Chris had actually been successful in turning him back into a wolf! As I saw his eyes, I smiled. They were now completely gold, with all hint of silver gone. Now that Chris had bitten him, it looked like his mother's pack heritage had dominated instead of his father's Rogue heritage. I still felt bad that Anthony was all alone in our pack, though. He was the only one without a mate. He phased back to his human form when he spotted us. Then I noticed a young girl beside him. She had flowing black hair and brown eyes, and she was looking at Anthony in a weird way. He smiled down at her as she clung to his arm, a scared look on her face at the sight of us. 

Anthony who is this? I asked him through a private mindlink. 

She's, well, I think I found my mate. he replied in an abashed tone. 

Where did she come from? I asked, appalled.

She was a lone wolf that you freed from the dungeon. When she ran out here, we just saw each other, and- well I guess you know the feeling. he said. 

Yeah. I said, remembering the feeling I felt when Chris first looked at me. I hadn't realized he was my mate right away though, because I thought it was impossible for my mate to be a human. But he wasn't even all human to begin with. 

Can she join our pack? he pleaded. 

I don't know, you'd have to take that up with Chad's grandfather AND your second cousin. I said. 

My second cousin? he asked in a confused tone. 

Yup, Chris' father is your father's cousin, making you and Chris second cousin's. I explained with a smirk. 

What the hell? Who is my father's cousin? Anthony asked. I motioned my head to Chris' father, who instantly looked up at Anthony. 

Whoa, how are his eyes gold? Anthony asked. 

It's a long story, but I'm sure he'd be willing to explain it to you. I said. 

Okay, and this better make sense, because right now I'm completely lost. Anthony said.

Trust me, it will. I replied. 

The girl clinging to Anthony whimpered when Chris' father, Chris, and I all shifted to our human forms. 

"It's okay Sara. They're in my pack, you're safe. We're not like the Rogues." Anthony said, trying to calm 'Sara.' 

Chris and I walked slowly up to Anthony and Sara seemed to relax a little when she realized we weren't her enemies. I smiled at her and she hesitantly returned the smile. 

"I'm Kylie." I said, holding out my hand. She shook my hand and her smile grew wider.

"Sara." she said. 

"Nice to meet you, hopefully you can join our pack" I said.

"Of course she can." I heard Chad's grandfather and Chris say at the same time. 

"Oh, well I guess you can join us. Welcome to the pack." I said. 

"Thanks." she said a little bit more confidently. 

Chris and I quickly introduced his father to the rest of the pack, and then we told them all that he would explain who he was and why Chris was the alpha and such. 

Chris and I went over to a tree in the far corner of the field, as we had already heard the story in the dungeon. Chris sat down and pulled me into his lap. It was a bit cold here, but it wasn't too bad under the cover of the tree. Chris sighed as we listened to his father repeat the story from a distance. 

"I'm glad Anthony finally found his true mate." I said.

"Yeah. I'm glad that I can finally understand my past." Chris said. I smiled. 

I turned around and kissed Chris. I had almost lost him. I thought I would never get to kiss him again. It had been a miracle when he was alive. 

Chris tangled his fingers in my hair and kissed me back. I loved him so much. I felt his canines grow sharp. The golden haze interrupted my vision. A low growl of pleasure built up in Chris' chest. His other arm wound around my waist and pulled me into his chest. I smiled and continued to kiss him deeply.

"I missed you." I whispered to him.

He pulled away and placed his forehead against mine. 

"What would you have done if I died?" he asked. 

"I don't know. I would be lost without you. I would probably break away from the pack and live like your dad did." I said.

"You wouldn't have gone back to Anthony?" Chris asked.

"He has a mate, and why would I ever go back to him over my own true mate?" I asked.

"Well, if he hadn't sacrificed his wolf to revive me, he probably wouldn't have ever found his mate. He would've wanted you back, and I don't think he would have let you go without trying to track you." Chris said.

"Chris, I wouldn't have gone back to him no matter what. Now can we please get off the subject of you dying?" I pleaded. 

"Okay, I have something better we could do anyway." he said with a sly smile.

"Like what?" I asked with a smirk. 

"Like this." he said, pressing his lips to mine again. I smiled and we continued to kiss. I gripped the collar of his shirt, but I knew I couldn't take it off. Not here, not now. Our whole pack was here. 

I broke away from Chris.

"I think we should wait until we get home." I said. Chris smiled mischieviously.

"Agreed." he said. 

We looked back at our group of packmates, and noticed that Chris' father was just finishing up his story. We both stood up. Time for ANOTHER change in leadership. This pack held more surprises and changes than all of our generation of packs combined. Chris smiled at me and squeezed my hand in reassurance. 

"Time to go meet some new pack members." he whispered.

I laughed lightly. Even though this pack was surprising and sometimes stressful, I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. Ever.
