When Chris pulled away from me, Bree ran up and hugged me, not giving me any time to breathe. She pulled away quickly and looked at me.
"Are you okay?" She asked.
"You know we heal fast. I'm fine." I assured her.
"Chris, how did you know where to find me?" I asked curiously.
"Chad called me through his mind." Chris said.
"Thank you, Chad." I said gratefully.
"It's nothing." He brushed it off.
"It saved my life, I don't see that as nothing." I said with a laugh.
He blushed and looked away, running a hand through his blonde hair before shoving both his hands in his pockets. I chuckled and Bree smiled lovingly at him. Yeah, I may have forgot to mention that they were mated, but it was really obvious.
"Oh yeah, what time is it?" I asked, shooting out of bed.
"3:04 am." Chris said, checking his watch.
"Shit we're late for patrol." I cursed.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, wait a minute. Before we patrol, um, well, I think we should be careful in case there's an ambush. As you might've heard, Anthony was exiled from the pack. He probably joined Audrey, and since Anthony's finally on their side AND he's angry, well, he might try to start the battle." Chris explained shamefully.
"Chris it's not your fault. There was nothing you could do to stop them from attacking. If you had killed them, Audrey would have attacked anyway to avenge his sons death."
I assured him.
"Yeah but now they're gonna attack AND they have Anthony on their side now. That gives them an advantage cause they know all of our battle tactics." Chris pointed out.
I sighed in defeat. "True, but you're new to being an alpha. You're bound to make mistakes. I know I did." I said.
"Okay, well we have to go now for patrol so..." Chris said.
"Okay but first I have to visit my parents house and let them know I'm okay. It's been about two and a half days, so they might get a little worried." I explained.
"Okay we'll stop there on the way."Chris agreed.
*****
After we stopped at my parents house and I went inside so they could see I was fine, I went back outside and we shot into the woods, ready for patrol. I went with Chris while Chad went with Bree. Every corner we turned, and every twig I heard that snapped, I got more and more paranoid.
Please don't let us get attacked, please don't let us get attacked.
I thought to myself the whole time. When Chris and I finally cleared the perimeter and met up with Chad, he was dragging an unconscious Bree.
Oh my god what happened!? I thought towards him. I was certain they had gotten attacked, but if so, why didn't my wolf senses tell me they were in danger, and why didn't Chad call for help?
She ran into a tree while she was too busy looking over at me. he thought back with a roll of his eyes. Chris laughed once in his head, accompanied by a bark. I laughed along with Chris for a few seconds before he turned serious.
So did you find anything? he asked curiously.
Well, we came across Anthony's scent, the one that he left last night when he ran away. He was going in a specific direction, which means if he was going to Audrey, he's been planning or at least debating on leaving us for a while now. We don't know where the Rogue's hideout is, but it seems that he does. Chad explained quickly to me and Chris.
That bastard! I growled.
Yeah, you just now figured that out? Chris said skeptically.
Oh, hush you only hated him because he used to be my mate. I thought with a smirk.
Hmph. was Chris' only response. Just then, Bree began to stir. She shook her great brown head and focused her eyes on us.
Did I hit that goddamn tree? she asked, embarrassed.
Yup. Chad thought with a laugh. Chad got Bree caught up to what we were talking about, and we all focused on Chris so he could explain the plan.
Well, I think we should follow Anthony's scent and see where he went. If he went to Audrey, we could find out where the Rogue's live and we could begin gathering the packs and planning battle tactics. If he became a lone wolf, we"ll leave him alone unless he decides to attack. Chris explained.
Sounds good. we agreed.
Okay Chad, you and Bree lead the way to where you guys found the scent. Chris said, motioning for them to start running to the spot they had made the discovery.
A couple minutes later, we all arrived at the spot that my two packmates had found my old mates scent. I could definately smell Anthony here. Chris and I got in the lead and we ran along Anthony's direct path to who-knows-where.
After we were all running for about an hour, we were somewhere in Ellicott City. We hid in the underbrush, being cautious in case there were any Rogue's around. We came out into a clearing, and Anthony's scent became mixed with a Rogue lookout. Wait, a Rogue lookout!? They were only supposed to be stationed around Audrey's territorty, which meant we were close. Very close.
