As one of the wolves pounced, I dodged and snarled viciously back at him. He whirled around and I swiped my claw across his face. Instead of backing off after my blow, I continued to use my claws and teeth to attack the wolf's face. I was so furious at those wolves that I had no mercy for them. They had taken the life of my true mate. I could never forget that, and I wouldn't let them get away with this. The other wolf felt the need to save his brother, so he attacked me. His jaws clamped down on my shoulder, and I could feel his teeth, but it caused me no pain. I could feel his teeth sink so far into my shoulder that it connected with my bone, but still no pain came. I was past the point of feeling pain. All I had room for was anger, revenge, and hurt for the loss of my mate. I jerked away from the attacking wolf and delivered a powerful kick to his chest with my back leg. He whimpered and I heard one of his bones crack. He whimpered again, and I felt a sharp pain shoot up my spine. The wolf behind me had latched his teeth onto my tail, and his brother stood up and snarled at me. In that moment, a rush of feeling came back to me and I could feel how much blood I was losing. My neck wound was still bleeding a little, and my shoulder was now gushing blood. I could feel some broken bones, and I began to get light-headed. My vision blurred slightly. As the wolf advanced on me and his brothers hold on my tail tightened, I knew I was going to die. I couldn't fight it, and why should I? Chris was dead, wasn't he? Was he? I wasn't absolutely positive. I couldn't die knowing that my mate was still alive. I squeezed my eyes shut. Just let this be over quickly. I heard the wolf in front of me give one last howl before he pounced. Right before he could slam into me, I heard a THUMP as something slammed into him and knocked him to the ground, unconcious. I opened my eyes to see my father standing over the wolf. looking down at him with hate. I instantly spun around, ignoring my pain and lunging at the wolf that had been latched onto my tail. He was frozen by the shock of his brothers fall, so I simply sunk my teeth into his neck and crushed his windpipe. I let him fall to the ground and turned back around to see that my dad had killed the other wolf. My vision blurred again, but I ignored it as I sprinted over to Chris' lifeless body.

CHRIS! Chris wake up! Please wake up! I begged. I leaned down and touched my snout to his. He wasn't moving. I put my ear to his chest. His heart was silent. My heart filled with pain. Then, I heard it. It was a dull ga-lump noise. It was Chris' heart. But it was so faint. I counted the seconds between each beat of his weak heart. Three seconds. That wasn't good at all. I laid on the ground next to Chris, not caring that I was in the middle of a blood-stained battlefield and I could die any second. I was mourning the loss of my mate. I could hear his heart growing weaker, the time between each beat decreasing ever so slightly with each passing minute. He was slowly dying, and I could do nothing to stop it. I buried my muzzle into his warm fur, savoring his scent as the most pain I had ever felt hit me like a tornado. This pain was worse than having my ribs broken, worse than having my bones crushed. It was worse than getting the skin ripped off of my shoulder and then having that same shoulder scrape against rocks and gravel. It was worse than the pain I would feel if I lost the ability to change into my wolf. This was the pain of losing my true love. Chris' human face flashed through my mind. His warm chocolate eyes, the way they sparkled when we kissed. The feeling of him carrying me in his arms when I was losing conciosness. That feeling of joy and wonder I had felt when his eyes had turned out to be gold and not silver. The victory of him becoming my mate and telling me he loved me. I howled as loud as I could. The sound was filled with so much sorrow and pain that every wolf in the batlefield looked up, including the Rogues.

Oh no.I heard Bree's voice say in my mind. I looked up and spotted her about halfway down the field. I thought she was talking to me, but instead she was looking at something a little to my right. My gaze followed hers and I gasped at what I saw. Anthony's father had Lisa pinned to the ground. His eyes were cold and merciless, glinting like steel as they glared down at his former mate. With one last growl, he ripped out Lisa's throat. There was a moment of silence until a howl of agony pierced the air. Anthony came charging out of the crowd of Rogue's to stand by his mothers side. He touched his snout to hers as her blood pooled out over his paws. He wore a shocked expression as his father let out a cruel, heartless laugh. It made me shudder, and I knew he had opened a mindlink to everyone in the field so we could all hear him as he spoke to Anthony.

You're mourning over that worthless piece of trash?! his voice echoed.

SHE WAS MY MOTHER!!! Anthony replied with a choked sob.

You are with us now, I am your father, she is a traitor. You shouldn't care for her. Audrey replied coldly.

Y-You killed her. You k-killed my mother. YOU KILLED YOUR OWN MATE!!! HOW COULD YOU?! She RAISED me!!! Even if I was on your side, I could NEVER forget that she was there when you weren't! You BASTARD, that was my MOTHER! Anthony shouted furiously. Then he charged. Audrey was prepared for this, and he caught Anthony's throat between his powerful jaws. His canines were visible, and I shuddered again as I noticed they were still drenched with Lisa's blood. Before I knew what I was doing, I charged and rammed into Audrey as hard as I could, freeing Anthony from his clutches. He yelped and spun to face me with a growl, while Anthony stood up and shook his ruff. I growled, and as Audrey charged me there was a battle cry coming from my side. All of our remaining warriors, the elders included, charged Audrey and slammed into him from all different directions. I backed up and watched as Audrey disappeared into the crowd of fur and fangs.

I ran back to Chris' side. His heartbeat was even weaker. I stared at his face, wishing with all my heart that he could come back to me. I whined and I felt a reassuring touch on my shoulder. I turned to find Anthony looking at me with sadness and regret in his eyes.

I'm sorry for your loss. he whispered.

Thank you, I'm sorry for your loss as well. I whispered back in a choked voice.

Just then, I realized it was deadly quiet. I looked around to see all of my packmates staring at me, and Audrey on the ground in an unrecognizable heap. We had won the battle, but I felt no victory.

Is he dead? Chad asked in a shocked voice.

Almost, you can hear his heart, but it's very faint. I replied.

Oh no. Bree whispered.

I don't know how I'm gonna live. I said in a devestated tone. All of my packmates put their heads down in a moment of silence in honor of their fallen warrior. Even Anthony. Then, our alpha (Chad's grandfather in case you forgot) stepped forward.

There is a way you can save him. he whispered.
