What? I asked in a shocked tone, not sure that I had heard him correctly.
You can save him, but you must act quickly before his heart stops completely. Chad's grandfather explained quickly.
How? I asked desperately.
A single wolf in the same pack or age range must sacrifice their wolf form in order to save him. There is an enchantment that must be spoken by the lead elder, which would be myself, and the strength from another packmates wolf will revive him, but the packmate would have to give up his or her wolf. Chad's grandfather explained.
I can do- I began.
I'll do it. Anthony said, stepping froward with a sincere look on his face.
Anthony? I asked in a shocked voice.
I know how it feels to lose someone close to you. I just lost my mom, remember? You don't deserve to live like that. Besides, it's all my fault he got hurt anyway. Anthony explained in a regretful tone.
But-
No buts, I'm doing it. he interfered.
Very well. Chad's grandfather announced finally. He stepped forward, changing into his human form. Anthony stepped close to Chris and looked at Chad's grandfather expectantly. Chad's grandfather stepped forward and placed a hand on Chris' chest and a hand on Anthony's chest. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath before muttering a series of words under his breath. They didn't sound like they were in english.
Slowly, I heard Chris' heartbeat begin to grow stronger. Anthony bent forward, the fur raising up on his neck, his eyes squeezed shut and his face grimaced in pain.He whined sharply as his fur slowly disappeared. Chris' heart grew stronger until it was beating at a normal rate, and Anthony let out a heavy breath as he was fully transformed back into a human. He clutched his stomach and squeezed his eyes shut as Chris' head moved slightly.
I could tell Anthony was human, his scent indicated it all. The only thing that alerted me of his wolf heritage was the long scar running across his face that he had gotten from Chris. Battle scars.
I looked to Chris as his golden eyes slowly opened. He shook his head and I slowly felt our mindlink be reconnected. I couldn't believe that he was alive! It was a miracle! I yipped and ran forward, tackling him in my haste. He wore a shocked expression as I licked his face repeatedly. He growled playfully and shoved me off him. When he stood up, he gave me a half-smile before spotting Anthony. His fur bristled and he growled menacingly as he stepped forward. I barked sharply and blocked his path, the fur on my own back bristling. Chris gave me a shocked expression. I let memories flood my mind of the past few minutes, and I shared those memories with Chris. He whined sharply in surprise at the fact that Anthony had done something that kind for him, even though Chris had stolen his mate AND exiled him from the pack. Chris phased back into his human form with the same shocked look on his face.
He took a hesitant step towards Anthony. "You saved my life?" Chris asked, disbelief coloring his tone.
"I'm not that cruel." Anthony joked with a light chuckle.
"Thank you." Chris said seriously.
"No problem." Anthony said.
"Do you miss your wolf?" Chris asked.
"Yeah. But I had to do what I had to do." Anthony shrugged.
"Do you want it back?" Chris asked.
"You can bring it back?" Anthony asked skeptically.
"Yeah, if you hold still." Chris said.
Anthony stilled, and Chris shifted into his wolf form. I knew what he was about to do, and I crossed my fingers and prayed that it would work. Chris leapt at Anthony and sunk his teeth into his neck. Anthony cried out in pain, but Chris was already standing by my side. Anthony dropped to the ground, holding his injury.
"I will stay with him. Kylie, Chris, go into the mansion and check the dungeons for prisoners. If they are not Rogue's, release them."
Chad's grandfather ordered. Chris nodded and motioned for me to follow him. I obeyed and we slowly crept into the mansion. With one sniff of my nose and a twitch of my ears, I confirmed that Chris and I were the only people on this floor of the mansion. However, I could sense several prisoners in the dungeons. Chris and I found a flight of stairs and decended them into the basment. We saw a thick wooden door that could only be the entrance to a very large jail cell. Chris shifted to his human form and with one mighty tug, he ripped the door from the hinges.
We both slipped inside, and I was hit with the awful smell of decaying flesh, unshowered prisoners, and rotten food. Chris glanced around the dungeon and froze. I watched him stiffen, and a single word slipped through his lips that explained it all.
"Dad?" he whispered.
