As we walked over to our pack members hand in hand, Anthony looked over at us. He looked down at our entwined hands and smiled.
I can finally be happy for you. he said in my head.
Thank you, I'm happy for you too. I replied. Anthony tightened his hold around Sara's waist. I could tell that they were mates, there was no mistaking it.
Chris cleared his throat and everyone looked at him. "So does everyone understand my father's story now?" he asked.
"Yes, and I would like to say that Mr. Brown will be appointed to the role of lead alpha of the older pack, since he has obviously earned it." Chad's grandfather stated. I looked at my father. I could tell it hurt him slightly to have to step down and give over his leadership to a new pack member, but he could deal with it. My mother however, well, she was sulking. I could see it in her eyes. She wouldn't be able to run in the front row anymore, not being the alpha's mate.
"Oh, and before I forget, Anthony's eye color seems to have brightened. He will be appointed to third in command, his mate Sara will be fourth. " Chad's grandfather continued in a lazy voice. Sara smiled and Anthony mumbled a thank you.
"Now, let's get out of here. The Rogue's are defeated, and I'm sure none of us prefer being here." Chad's grandfather said. We all sighed in relief and agreed. As we all phased into our wolf forms, I looked at Sara. She had light gray fur on her face, and the fur on her back darkened until it was a charcoal gray, like Anthony's. The fur on her paws and tail was black. I saw her eyes and was shocked to see that they were brown, even in wolf form.
Her eyes will turn gold as she sides with us. A lone wolf has their human-colored eyes until they choose a pack to side with. Chad's voice said in my mind.
How do you know? I asked him in disbelief.
My grandfather talks about it alot. he said with a shrug.
Oh. I replied. That seemed pretty obvious now that I thought about it.
Guys, don't even try to run in formation, it's pretty confusing right now with all the extra pack members. Chad's grandfather's voice said, echoing through the mind of the pack.
We all shrugged and shot off into the woods. I stuck by Chris' side, our fur brushing. I nipped at his ear in a playful manner. He chased me through the woods, and members from the older pack shot us odd looks as we acted like small pups. Bree and Chad joined in, so all the older pack members obviously thought the younger pack was immature. The only two people who didn't join into our antics from our pack were Anthony and Sara. Sara seemed too nervous to join us, and Anthony wasn't going to leave her side. Chris tackled me and we rolled on the ground. Our pack members flew past us as they continued to race home. Chris leaned in to try to playfully bite me, but I yipped and rolled him off me, shooting into the woods and catching up to my packmates. I could hear Chris gaining on me.
The run home seemed quite short since we were all happy this time around. I would never admit this to Anthony, but without his mother the pack was easier to control. His mother had been such a drama-queen, although I could KIND of understand why she had been so cold-hearted. I mean, her mate had been the alpha of the Rogue's.
We all shifted to our human forms as we approached the edge of the woods and prepared to enter our neighbohood.
"Dad are you gonna come home?" Chris asked in a hopeful tone.
"Uh, you weren't home this morning when your mother woke up, and she's probably already worried. I think you should show up and tell her a story about where you were so she calms down. I'll come over in a couple days to show her that I'm here." Chris' father replied.
"Oh." Chris said in a slightly sad tone. Then his eyes widened as he realized his mother probabaly WAS worried about where he had disappeared off to. Chris bit his lip and I smiled slightly in understanding. He would have to sneak out even more often than his father had. He was the alpha, and he couldn't miss meetings or any type of patrols that popped up. Even though almost all of the Rogue's had escaped after Audrey was killed, it wouldn't be long before they regrouped somewhere else with a new alpha. And then, they would try to attack us again. Although now it might be easier because Anthony was no longer able to have the privelege to be the alpha of the Rogue's. This was because now that he had been re-turned into a pure wolf, all visible traces of Rogue blood in him had disappeared. My thoughts flickered back to Chris as I heard his voice in my mind.
My mom won't be home until much later, and it's only 8:30 am. Do you wanna come over? He asked.
Sure. I replied with a shrug. Chris smiled and took my hand as we proceeded to walk in the direction of his house. The other pack memebers walked out of the woods and went in the direction of thier own houses while Chris' father phased to his wolf form and slunk off into the woods. I suspected he would live there for a couple of days until he was ready to announce his presence to Chris' mom.
Chris walked with me to his house and then we went inside through the back door. Once we got inside, Chris motioned to the kitchen.
"Hungry?" he asked.
"Nah, not for food." I replied with a sly smile.
"Then what are you hungry for?" Chris asked, raising an eyebrow.
"You." I said, walking up to him. He smiled, and I took his hand, leading him up the stairs. His eyes glowed the golden color that he had in his wolf form, and his canines slowly elongated as his wolf struggled to get out and claim his mate. My own wolf stirred inside me as I stared at him. She was eager to feel his body against mine, and she howled inside my head as I struggled to keep her under the surface. Chris continued to struggle with his own wolf as I pulled him into his room and shut the door. His hand came up to cup the side of my face as his soft lips pressed against mine. My wolf purred in contentment, and she still urged me to stop fooling around and let him claim me already.
Shut up. Be patient! I scolded her through my mind. She ignored me. My eyes took on the golden hue, enhancing my vision and giving me wolf sight. A growl escaped Chris' lips, coming from his own wolf that wanted out. His wolf was probably harder to contain than mine was, because he was a male alpha. I could feel Chris tense up, and he slowly took a deep breath, his eyes fading a bit as his wolf was pushed back. I wanted to make this last as long as possible. I continued to kiss Chris, his other hand coming up to slip beneath my shirt and stroke the skin on my lower back. I leaned into him and welcomed his touch, all but forgetting about my wolf as his lips moved down my neck. I was ready to mate with him, and i couldn't wait any longer. I looked into his golden-brown eyes and knew he was ready too. He was my mate, and I wanted to complete that process. It would make me happy, and it would make my wolf happy. I had no objection to that. Chris pressed his lips to my ear.
"I love you." he whispered.
"I love you too." I replied as he began to slip my shirt off.
