As Chris and I ran side by side towards the place where the scent of wolves led, we arrived in a small clearing. I could smell the wolves right across the clearing, just behind the first line of trees.

Just then, a russet colored wolf with black fur on his ears and paws stepped through the trees, snarling. He seemed only to be cautious with his growl, but my fur stood on end when I looked into his eyes. They were silver, the color of the Rogues. But then I realized he was a lone wolf. I didn't often come across many lone wolves that had broken away from their packs, with a few rare exceptions. But this wolf had been in the prison when I freed the lone wolves, and he hadn't had a scent of anger or rebellion in him, not even an urge to fight. He hadn't smelled like a Rogue, so I hadn't treated him as a Rogue. Fair enough.

I made sure that my defenses were up as I kept a watchful eye on the wolf, cautious as to what he would do. I made my best efforts not to growl at him so he wouldn't feel provoked.

Suddenly, the wolf stopped snarling, but his muzzle remained curled above his teeth, just in case. He took a few slow steps forward, and Chris seemed to be analyzing him in an attempt to find out his intentions.

Who are you? I asked in the calmest voice I could muster.

I happened to realize that you freed me from the dungeon, and I needed a pack to join. I didn't want to be a lone wolf anymore. So do you think I can maybe join your pack...?  he asked hopefully.

Well I would talk to the alpha about your request, but it doesn't seem as if you're a lone wolf. You seem to have already chosen sides judging by the color of your irises. I said.

I was bitten by a Rougue a year or two ago. I didn't believe in the Rogue's ways, but as you know, since I was bitten by a Rogue my instincts told me to act like a Rogue. But you may not know that after about a month, the ability to choose your own sides reappears in your system. I was able to decide that I didn't want to be with the Rogues, so I told them I was going off to be a lone wolf. They didn't agree with this and feared I would become a spy and join the other side, so they imprisoned me for thinking of betraying them. he explained in the quickest voice he could.

Hmmm, okay. Well, I believe you, but you're still going to have to take it up with our alpha AND our elders. I said. I turned to Chris, and he looked at the wolf.

Hmm, he seems okay. I'll accept him, but he might have to be watched for awhile so we can make sure he's telling the truth. We still have to speak to the elders though. Chris said to me. I nodded and turned back to the wolf.

Okay, if you follow us we can take you to the elders and they can make the decision. I said.

Thanks. By the way, I'm not sure if it really matters right now, but my names Matthew. he said.

Nice to meet you. I said with a nod in his direction. I wasn't really paying attention to him,  however. I was more focused on Chris, who seemed to have that troubled look on his face again. What was with him today? Ever since the meeting and his claim that his dad hadn't seemed right, he had seemed to be pondering about something important ever since. I decided not to ask him now, instead making a mental note to ask him later and motioning for the new wolf to follow us.

We ran at an almost leisurely pace back to the elders, and I internally groaned. The elders would HATE us soon. I had never been to see them this often in my whole life, and plus they had just fought in a battle with us. They were bound to be grumpy and exhausted.

As we arrived in front of the elders, we all shifted to our human forms. I looked over at the new wolf, Matthew, and saw that he whined and lifted a paw in the air, his eyes filling a bit with fear and nervousness at the sight of the serious faces of the elders. I nodded at him slightly to encourage him, and he sighed and raised onto his back paws, letting the human form shimmer through him until his paws, fur, and canines disappeared and were replaced with a baggy pair of jeans and a tight-fitting black t-shirt that show-cased his abs. He had black hair that was closely-cropped against his head and he ran a hand through it in nervousness, biting his lip as the elders stared him down. Both his ears were pierced, and the tone of his skin was close to Chris'. I suddenly got the feeling that Chris and this stranger would become fast friends. I looked to the elders in expectation, but they stared right back at me, asking for an explanation of why I had brought this new wolf to their den.
