"NYPD! Coming in!"

It was early in the morning, and as the detectives busted down the door, they cleared the house room by room.

"Perp's not here," Fin announced.

"I guess he fled before we got here."

34-year-old, Jim McGee, an explosive worker was said to be holding a kid captive in his house.

"I'll go check the basement," Olivia said. "It's safe Alex, you wanna come join us?"

"Sure."

They had been working on the case for a couple of days and Alex was also invested in it.

The detective and ADA opened a door with stairs leading to the basement.

"I'll go first" Olivia led them through the door.

Alex followed behind.

They got to another door.

Olivia opened the door which showed a dark and beat-up room. A scrawny kid was locked inside with heavy black shackles on their arms.

The kid looked about 13, skinny, and malnourished.

The detective quickly broke the shackles off.

"Hi, I'm Olivia, I'm a detective and that's Alex. What's your name."

The kid didn't answer, but quietly and blankly stared at Alex then at Olivia, and back to Alex.

"Should we go outside?" Olivia asked when the kid didn't respond again, she extended a hand out to the scared kid.

Quietly and slowly the kid got up ignoring the detective's hand. To Olivia's surprise, they walked toward Alex standing beside her.

Alex looked into their eyes, their eyes were pleading for someone to help them.

"Okay..." Alex whispered as she held out a hand to the kid. Disappointedly, the kid seemed to reject touch.

Alex led the kid up the stairs, with them closely behind.

Alex Cabot POV (Third Person Omniscient)

Alex didn't leave their side while getting checked out by the EMTs, they got in the back of the cop car, and Alex again tried to bond with the victim.

"Hi," Alex smiled warmly. "I'm Alex, I'm an ADA, what's your name?"

The kid wanted to talk but they physically couldn't bring themselves to speak.

When the kid didn't answer, Alex said again, "Well, how about I tell you what I do? So, I work with the police. I prosecute bad people for their crimes. Do you know any bad people?"

Once again the kid didn't reply and kept staring down at their hands, avoiding eye contact.

"How about we go get some food? What do you think?"

That got the kid's attention. They nodded their head slowly like they were not sure if it was the right answer.

"Okay, so let's go do that."

For the whole car ride to the precinct, the kid stared off into the distance out the window.
