Blood.

Blood!

Alex rushed forward and grabbed the nearest towel to stop the bleeding from Hugh's left wrist.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In a daze, they picked up an exacter knife, and steadily drew a line on the back of the hand, drawing blood.

Disaocciated, all they felt was slight pain from the cold air stinging at the wound.

They dropped the knife, staring at the blood rushing out, like in a trance, they let the blood drip down their arm.

The blonde accidentally opened the door without knocking.

The thing she saw was blood dripping down the kid's wrist.

The kid looked like a deer that was spotted by headlights.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After Alex stopped the bleeding, she made sure the kid was okay.

"Are you ok?"

"Yeah." They used their right hand to sign. They were absolutely terrified.

"What happened?" Her parental side coming out.

Hugh didn't know what to say, how could they tell the one parental figure they now had that they were in so much pain that they had hurt to feel something?

"I'm sorry." Signing again. They were too scared to speak.

"What's wrong? This wouldn't something you do lightly." Alex stated, this time more gently.

"I... I... I'm sorry" They forced out. They weren't ready to tell her what happened.

"Let's get you cleaned up and then we can have the conversation okay?"

Hugh nodded.

Alex brought them to the washroom to clean up.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With fresh bandages, they sat on the couch. Hugh tried to move away, creating a barrier between the two of them.

"I love you and I want to help you. Are you ready to tell me what happened?" Alex asked kindly.

Feeling themselves starting to go non-verbal, they tried their hardest to communicate.

"Hmmm... I'm sorry..."

The blonde kept quiet to let them keep talking.

"I... I'm in pain... I feel numb. I needed to feel something... even if that meant hurting... I'm sorry." Hugh barely stuttered out and started rocking back and forth in their seat.

Hugh was always honest, Alex loved that about them.

It took a lot of courage and a lot of energy just to say that.

The kid completely shut down, not saying anything.

"Thanks for telling me. I know that was hard."

Alex was too kind, Hugh sobbed.

"I don't wish to see you hurting like this." Alex was super concerned. "We'll get you help, is that alright?"

"Okay." They signed.

"Is it okay if I hug you?"

"Yes." They signed again.

Alex wrapped her arms around the kid's rigid body, trying to soothe them from the stressful conversation they had just had.
