Is a bird a bird if it can't fly?
If it doesn't take that jump, that leap
That keeps that identity that they need
That they fear to lose?
That they're nothing without?
Can birds be scared? Can birds hesitate?
What if they leap and the only thing still afloat
Is their feathers as they pluck one by one
As the bird flys downwards
And lands hard on cement, it's bones scattered
It's thoughts no more.
Is it still a bird if it can't think? Can't feel?
Can no longer hesitate?
What if hesitation would've saved the bird?
What if hesitation is needed to help us fly?
The danger isn't the flying, that's the goal.
The danger is the falling, the fear, the end.
Everyone fears for the big bold letters at the end of their story.
Even birds.
