Homecoming is this Friday.

I've never been to homecoming in my 4 years of being at this school. The only party I've been to was prom last year, and I will never fucking discuss how that went.

The only reason why I even remembered that homecoming was a thing was because Jaxxon brought it up during lunch today. He mentioned that he was going with his girlfriend, and Summer said that she was going with her two friends. Ry and Ro are both in homecoming court, and Bugs seemed like she wanted nothing to do with homecoming. I didn't say much about it, but I caught Cin glancing at me while I was silent and I started to think about it harder than I usually would.

But my opinion is still the same. There's no way I'm going.

"What? Why not?" Cin asks, disappointment clear in his voice.

"It's just a bunch of sweaty people doing the Cupid Shuffle. Prom last year was horrible and homecoming is just like prom except there's a bunch of freshman creating dance circles for no reason."

Cin leans against the diner table and I move my pencil that I was writing notes with out of the way, "I mean, alright sure. But we can make it fun. We could dance and drink and-"

"That doesn't sound like fun, that sounds like a headache." I say.

Cin scratches his head, "Maybe we could do something else?"

"Like what?"

Cin opens his mouth to answer as the diner doors chime and new people walk in. He holds up his finger and smiles at me as he skates away and takes them to their dining booth.

I huff and pick my pencil back up as I stare at my halfway done math homework.

It was dumb coming The O while Cin is working, but he insisted that I should. He planned on helping me with my math, but the most he can do is a single equation before someone else walks in or we get sidetracked and start talking about something else. Cin is much better at math than I thought, and sometimes he has to slow down just to explain it to me all over again and I feel like a kid when he breaks it down into even smaller steps. But he's patient and never really seems irritated when I have questions, so it's way better than asking for help in class.

I hear Cin's chuckle from across the diner and I look up at him. He's talking to the customers, smiling, writing orders, and being his normal charming self. People eat up his bright energy, and I don't blame them. I mean, who wouldn't? He gets along with everyone, he's kind and understanding, he listens.

He's the opposite of me.

Yet here I am wishing he was helping me with my homework instead of waiting tables.

Cin gives one of the cooks a sticky note of orders then skates back over to me.

"Alright, now what were you saying?" Cin asks.

"You were the one talking." I say.

"Oh. Then what was I saying?"

I roll my eyes, "Something about doing something else instead of going to homecoming."

Cin eyes widen and he snaps his fingers, "Oh right! Okay so-"

Cin's coworker dings a bell indicating that an order is ready to serve. Cin sighs and gives me an apologetic looks before he skates away.
Again.

I tap my pencil against the table as I stare at my homework, hoping the jumbled numbers on my paper start to make some sense. They aren't any less confusing by the time Cin skates back towards me.

"Sorry. Okay so-" Cin starts.

"You can just got to homecoming. I'll stay home."

Cin tilts his head, "What, why?"
