"Cassy you're so nice! You look so cool when you gave that girl her doll back!" A young girl said patting the boy on his head.
"S-Shut up! I only did that because she was crying." The boy said as he looked away from the smiling girl.
"Hehehe" she giggled at his reaction, "Cassy you'll always be my beeeest friend! Do you pinky promise that you'll never forget about me?" The young girl said sticking out her pinky.
"S-Sure, if that's what makes you happy. I will never forget about you, I promise." He wrapped his pinky around her small one and both smiled at each other.
••"Myra guess what!" My aunt said cheerfully.
"What's up with you? You seem more cheerful than usual." I said drinking my cup of coffee.
"You wouldn't guess where we are going to move!" She said jumping up and down.
"No I wouldn't. Is it that important?"
"Where moving back where Cassy and his parents live! And we're gonna be their new neighbors! Isn't that great!" She said with a big grin.
"W-What!?" I said almost chocking on my coffee. "How long have you known this?"
"Well when I was looking at houses I remembered how Cassy an you were best of friends, and I decided to give Valerie a call and she told me that her neighbors had just moved out. I was going to tell you sooner but I wanted to surprise you." She said smiling.
"Yeah, you surprised me. Plus I haven't talked to Castiel since I was 10 years old. It's gonna be awkward talking again, plus he might not be the same. You know his parents aren't around as much." I said looking out the window.
"I'm sure he hasn't changed at all, he was a sweet boy when he was younger."
"I hope your right about that." I said sounding nervous.
••A month had passed and we arrived to our new house, it was oddly big for a three bedroom house. Luckily for us, all of the furniture was already delivered and set up. I went up to my room and finished unpacking. What I really liked about this house was that my room had a balcony, and the view was amazing from here. There were a lot of trees but besides that I could see the ocean from this distance.
I looked at the apartment next to me and there was a window that was close to my room, it was so close that I could almost touch the window myself. I felt like knocking on the window, it made me curious to know what was on the other side.
"Myra hurry up, we're going to be late!" My aunt yelled making me snap back to reality.
"Ok I'm going." I said withdrawing my hand.
Before I left, I saw the lights turn on from the other side of the window. I couldn't make out the figure but it seemed as if it were a boy, he looked around my age and had red hair. I stared at the figure but out of nowhere the figure came closer to the window. I realized that and I closed by balcony doors.
"Myra you're such a weirdo, I look like a stalker." I said to myself as I got dressed up.
It was 5 o'clock when I finished and went downstairs. My aunt had made lasagna and chocolate chip cookies to take, she was so happy to see them again. On the other hand, I felt nervous and strange at the thought that I'm gonna see Castiel again. I didn't know what to expect, we weren't as close anymore since I left. What I hate is the fact that I had a crush on him when we were little, but for some reason it feels as though I just suppressed it. It's still there but I ignore it, thinking that it was a foolish feeling.
"Help me with this Myra, I'm gonna go grab my purse ok." My aunt said handing me the lasagna.
Few moments later and she came back with her black purse, she grabbed the cookies and we headed out. We didn't walk far at all because the apartment was literally so 10 steps away from our house.
We knocked on the door and I started to feel very nervous. There were so many things going through my mind. I felt like turning around and acting like this never happened.
"Myra, its ok hun. Like I said there's nothing to be afraid of." She said smiling.
"I know it's just I haven't seen Castiel in a long time, and I know it's awkward to see him again." I said.
"It's fine, you'll get along just fine. Plus when did you stop calling him Cassy?" She said teasingly.
I heard footsteps and the door began to open. I took a deep breath and looked up to meet a pair of grey eyes. I widened my eyes and stayed speechless. If it wasn't for my aunt I would of stayed there frozen.
"Cassy!!!!! Look at you, you're so grown up now! And you dyed your hair red!" My aunt said almost dropping the cookies in the floor.
My aunt and I entered and we were greeted by Castiel's mom. Not once did I turn to look at him, I didn't know what to say anymore. The whole time my aunt and Valerie seemed to be having the most fun. I just sat there eating my food in silence, well not completely because the grown ups decided to talk about us.
"Valerie I love how you and your son have matching hair! It's so adorable!" My aunt said cheerfully.
"That's what I said but Castiel didn't like the idea!" Valerie said.
"Castiel you're so tall and handsome now, I remembered when you were shorter than Myra." My aunt said with a big grin on her face.
I stiffened up when I heard my name, I turned to look at Castiel who wasn't paying attention to the conversation. What made it worse was that they began to talk about me.
"Myra you're all grown up as well, you look like your mother. You grew up to be a beautiful girl. Isn't that right Cassy?" Valerie said.
I looked down embarrassed and looked at Castiel, who just had to look at the same time. We made eye contact but it seemed it was only me that was flustered, all I saw was him shrugging his shoulders.
"Don't be like that Cassy, you both haven't seen each other for the longest. You both act like you have never met." Valerie said.
My aunt smiled at whispered something into Valerie's ear, which really concerned me a lot.
"Well, Agatha and I are gonna go out and buy some coffee. You both can keep each other company." Valerie said smiling as both headed out the door.
There was an awkward silence between us, I tried to think of what to say but nothing came to my mind. When I decided to say something he stood up, I froze and just stared at him as he passed by. Before I knew it I had grabbed his arm, he stopped and looked at me.
"What?" He said coldly.
"Um, well I know that we haven't seen each other in many years. Can we at least talk?" I let go of his hand and looked down. I didn't know what to expect, I sat there in silence waiting for a response.
"What's there to talk about? I know that we grew up together, but it doesn't matter anymore. You and I aren't as close anymore." He said harshly as he walked away.
When my aunt came back we didn't stay that long, we went back home and I went straight to my room.
I thought about what happened today, what he had said was true. I sighed at this thought, even though it was true my heart sank. I remembered my childhood, it was the best one I could have. But remembering can't do anything, we now had a wall between us.
