One month later

Author POV:

Shigeru was now settled in as a Hashira. He himself actually had no swordskills whatsover, so Mitsuri always secretly slayed the demon moments before he got there, and he would claim he completed his mission. So far nobody has discovered them yet.

Shinobu and Shigeru's relationship just grew stronger by the day. They became great friends, trusted each other a lot and spent almost every second of their free time together. Shigeru didn't actually like like Shinobu, but she was a good friend. However, Shigeru was there to make Shinobu fall in love with him. Part of Mitsuri-the-matchmaker's plan.

However. Shigeru felt like it was long enough now. A month was enough. He didn't want to spend a whole year as a fake Hashira. He himself didn't like lying, and always felt bad when he was talking to the other pillars as if he was a pillar himself. Shigeru decided he would 'confess' to Shinobu tonight, where they were both sent on a mission.

After they slayed the demon

"Shinobu-chan.." Shigeru stopped. Shinobu stopped walking too and turned around, smiling as always.

"Yes, Shigeru-kun?" She said lightly. The insect pillar now had quite the crush on him.

"I.. I need to tell you something," Shigeru said, trying his best to fake-blush, "I.. I like you, Shinobu-chan.. always have."

Well. That was his attempt at confessing.

"Shigeru-kun!" Shinobu gasped, her face tomato red. "Really! Wow! I.. I've always liked you, too! From the day I saw you."

One month later [again]

Author POV (ft. Shinobu):

Shinobu and Shigeru were now officially dating, the news was out, and they were happy together. Except Shinobu kept on feeling something queasy, like someone tugging her.

Giyu and Shinobu still hadn't made up. Shinobu was too busy with Shigeru and Giyu just ignored her and stayed in his room unless he had a mission.

Shinobu felt bad about Giyu from time to time, but Shigeru always kept her busy, taking her out on dates or taking her to new places he discovered. Shigeru was an explorer, loved to visit new parks and such.

Shigeru was the oppisote of Giyu. Maybe that was why sometimes, just sometimes, Shinobu felt like Shigeru was wrong for her. Didn't they say oppisotes attract? Sometimes it felt like there was too many smiles in their relationship, so it felt more platonic than romantic a lot.

But Shinobu kept quiet. She didn't want to ruin everything and made things awkward with another Hashira. Shinobu had went to Oyakata-sama and requested for no missions with Giyu. Oyakata had agreed, much to his dislike. Still, he knew of Mitsuri's plan, so he allowed it.

Author POV (ft. Oyakata-sama):

However, Oyakata was not one to give up. He had decided Mitsuri's plan was not working and his water pillar was just too dense to take hints, so he made the ultimate desicion.

A possible upper moon detected a small village.

Shinobu, Shigeru and Giyu were to go.

This was sure to stir things up..
