Author POV:
Naomi threw her head back and laughed. Pure, evil laughter, ringing amongst the treetops.
"Ha! It's that mark again! The last Hashira I killed also had that mark!" Naomi grinned manically and charged towards Giyu at a lightning-fast speed. The water pillar dodged the advance easily and shot back at her, their weapons brutally smashing against each other. Naomi's eyes widened at how quickly Giyu was able to follow her movements now, and she even got overwhelmed.
Giyu managed to leave a bleeding slice on the demon's neck.
"Ugh! How dare you scratch me!" Naomi bared her fangs, the cut healing instantly, "That's enough child's play already! Just die!"
Suddenly, Naomi's long dark blue hair shifted into a cyan blue, and her kimono shifted into a shorter skirt, more friendly towards battle. Her pupils shifted and a new fighting spirit seemed to be lit within her.
"Ha! You weren't even beholding my true power before!" Naomi giggled, "Let's see how long you can survive for now!"
She lunged and the two began fighting again, but it was clear that Naomi was faster this time. Even though Giyu had his mark awakened and was fighting at his best, he still got a lot more wounds than Naomi did, and they couldn't heal like demons.
Shinobu watched helplessly, trying to find a moment to help, but she knew she would just drag Giyu down. Although she was fast, Giyu had his mark awakened and she couldn't match up with his speed now. Her strength was also far out of Giyu's league.
But she also knew how this was going to end. Although Giyu wasn't dead yet, Naomi was obviously stronger than him and he wasn't going to hold out until sunrise.
With shaking hands, the insect pillar prepared a needle filled to the brim with poison. It was of her strongest kind, and specialized for demons. Hopefully it could numb Naomi's power.. just for a little bit..
Shinobu ran up to the two, and threw the needle, praying it wouldn't land on Giyu. It was a fifty-fifty chance, and not a good choice for sure, but at that moment she wasn't thinking straight. She was just trying to help, praying so hard for luck to be on her side.
Shinobu closed her eyes and crossed her fingers. If it hit Naomi, they would have time to call another Hashira and then Naomi would be outnumbered..
She heard a thump and peeked through her fingers.
Giyu dropped to the floor.
Shinobu POV:
No. No.
The needle was stuck on Giyu's arm. I'd ruined everything. Although that poison was specialized for demons, it was still effective for humans..
Stupid, stupid, stupid. How could I just randomly throw?! How could I? There was no way I could hold out Naomi, and Giyu was no doubt exhausted from his mark, plus the poison had terrible damage on his stamina. No doubt he would be in a coma for at least a week.
Naomi grinned her maniac smile. "Ara ara~ And to think I thought I was gonna kill him! Turns out his own partner-in-crime ruined him! This is so delightful, thank you for saving me the time!"
I fell on my knees beside Giyu, my tears wetting his haori.
"Shut up, shut up, you stupid demon!" I turned around and shrieked at Naomi. I unsheathed my sword and charged at her, but she dodged easily. I couldn't match up to her speed or strength, and I knew I was dead meat. But there was no way I was losing this battle without a fight.
Two Hashiras, killed in one mission. Killing two birds with one stone? So much for that saying. What would Oyakta-sama say?
Was there enough time to get her crow to send another Hashira? No. Even if they went immediantly, they wouldn't be able to get here in time.
Everything seemed gone. I wouldn't see another sunrise, live another day.
And to think I was going to die without ever taking my revenge.
But I was not going to give up until my last breath. I defended Naomi's attacks as best I could, and I didn't get any major damages, but there was no time for any attacks myself.
Naomi yawned as she lashed her whip around. "Seriously, how slow could you be? If I wasn't going easy on you, you would have been dead in a second." Her hair, kimono and eyes were slowly shifting back to her first form.
All I could think about was Giyu. Without my treatment, he might not make it. If I died, what would happen to him? Would Shigeru save him? But he couldn't walk... Naomi was going to finish everyone, she would hunt down Shigeru and destroy Giyu..
At that moment, I discovered I cared more about what would happen to Giyu rather than my own boyfriend. Confusion, hurt, guilt roamed my mind as I blinked back tears, trying desperatly to block Naomi's attacks.
It was all going to end... right here..
