Blue light illuminated the long and dark hallway as the ghost's eyes flickered to life once more. It was silent in the domain, the only sound being the swaying and ambience of the entity itself. The ghostly glowing eyes slowly looked down the hallway. He didn't imagine anyone would be here, but it was practically routine to do so at this point--it was a way to gain his bearings after 'awakening.'
It would be common to assume that Halt had just woken up, but that is not what has just happened. To understand the context, one must look to before he lay to rest.
Every once in a while in the hotel, a new face would appear. Whether this be by a new domain opening up, or the thing just appearing one day, one thing could be said: they were always given a purpose to do in the hotel.
One of the first entities to be in the hotel was Halt. As far as Halt knew, the current entities hadn't been there for a very long. It was just he, a few others, and the structure that ever-so grew and expanded with strange doors and rooms before the others came.
What did this have to do with Halt resting? Well...
Often times, when Halt lay to rest, he dreamed not of strange things that most do, but received visions of times before he came to be. This time was one of those times.
• ? hours ago: Halt lays to rest.
The ghostly entity positioned himself in the middle of the hallway, the sound of his incoherent chirps echoing as he closed his eyes. Now of course, a ghost cannot sleep, but Halt could do the next best thing: sit very still and pretend he is sleeping so that nobody bothers him.
It had been a few moments since the entity had begun his cycle of meditation. He didn't get many hours to simply relax for himself, so this way nice.
"Amicus meus." a deep voice echoed in Halt's mind. It sent him shivers, though he had no spine to run it down.
"Quis es?"
A warm laughter filled the hallway, but Halt had the feeling that only he could hear it.
"How could thee forget my name?" the voice questioned. "Wherefore has thy memory forsaken thee?" the voice rumbled.
"'tis not my fault." Halt replied in a monotone voice. "But now that your bubbly personality plagues my thoughts once more, it is clear that you are my master. I offer my humblest apologies." The ghost's voice lacked emotion, but one with a trained ear could tell that it was of respect nevertheless.
"I wish for thy assistance... I will require the same actions as the time before this."
Halt nodded. There would be no need in wasting any further time.

Hey guys, apologies for taking so long on releasing the new chapter. As you can probably tell, I got burnt out for absolutely NO reason. But good news! During this time, I spent a lot of my free breaks designing the lore for this story. Please do expect more frequent uploads, and I apologize once more for such a short chapter after such a while. I'm releasing it now so I can get back in the groove of posting.
If you'd like to interact with more people who like Coworkers, Doors, other fandoms or possibly interact with me, please do join the Coworkers Discord server! I talk in it quite frequently with many others who are regulars. We've formed an amazing friend group and community there, and there is a roleplay where we play Doors characters. If you're interested, I highly recommend joining the server. I'll be giving sneak peeks there and such.
Again, thank you all for reading, it's been such a journey so far. I can't wait to show you all the lore I have planned out! Thank you for around 23k reads- this includes AO3 and Wattpad combined. If you haven't already, please check out my other fanfic called "Curiosity" on my profile. It follows a good green fellow we lost a couple chapters back... so if you want a good surprise, go on and enter THAT set of "Rooms." :)
