Canter's was full of hushed conversations and dreamy eyed young people. It seemed to be an unspoken agreement for most to grab a bite to eat, chat, and meditate in semi-solitude after the Hare Krishna gathering a few blocks down. The sky was dark, time unknown to the six friends in their own booth picking at the bitesize leftovers of their deli subs. Nina scribbled her experience in her worn faux leather journal, blue ink smudged on the side of her hand as she wrote new lines before the previous ones dried.

Daisy could still hear a reverberation of music vibrating in her head and soul as she rapped on about the Hare Krishna gathering they'd just left, a smile shining on her face. The bell sleeves of her yellow kaftan tunic danced and fluttered about her like a flower blooming in spring as she spoke and moved her arms about to emphasize herself. She didn't take too lightly to James saying she was like an Italian New Yorker with the way she moved her arms, but practicing peace she let the words flow away and continued to express her excitement.

"I have the heavy feeling that this is my path," Daisy said. "Not long ago everyone traveled West. The American Dream! But I want—need to travel East, you see." She leaned forward, palms flat on the crumb filled table and eyes scanning the faces around her. "That gypsy told me I must travel to my past to move to my future and mentioned she saw a ship. Full circle."

James stared at Daisy as he finished the last of his beer. "You're American," he stated.

"Vietnamese American," she said. "Just as you're African American. Your past is in Africa while mine is in Vietnam." She sung, "And fight with great mind till the day when Vietnam becomes a shining light!"

James glanced at all of his friends wondering if they all had a thought similar to his, but only Daniel seemed conscious of what was going on as he smoked moodily and watched them. Bonnie smiled and sung along with Daisy (Citizens! let's step forward now!), Nick stared at nothing while rubbing his beard, and Nina still wrote and smeared ink on herself.

"Daisy," James said lightly, "I don't think you can go to 'Nam."

She sighed heavily. With a small pout, Bonnie rubbed Daisy's hair.

"I know." Daisy rolled her eyes. "That wasn't—oh! you ruin everything, be quiet."

James looked at Daniel as he lit another cigarette.

"What's with you?" James asked.

Daniel rubbed his head with the hand that held his cigarette (Daisy worried he'd burn himself) then shook his head and dropped the arm to the table. "Bad vision, man," he said. "I can't dig that Om Krishna shit."

"Hare Krishna," Daisy corrected.

Daniel rubbed his chest and stared at the table. He didn't want to recall the vison and live in it again, but he had the need to tell someone, everyone!
