Beer cans, chip bags, candy wrappers, and the ashes of cigarettes and weed littered the floor. The balcony door was left half opened, a harsh wind and steady rain flowing through the kitchen and living area. A Minigrip bag had blown off the dining table and fallen to the floor. Crumbs of mushrooms littered the surface, showing the trail the bag had taken. Snores and heavy breathing rose from the sleeping occupants.

Daisy was sprawled on the couch, hair consuming her face. Nick was on his back on the floor, feet propped on the chair, an empty beer can beside him. Bonnie lied on her side in front of the television. With a cheek pressed to the cold wooden floor, snores escaped Daniel's mouth. Breathing was difficult as he laid on his stomach, James's head on his bare back.

With a groan, sleep fled Daisy. Her hand grazed the floor, eyes still shut. The sun was nonexistent, a thick grey mass hovered in the sky. Even with eyes shut and no light, an ache attacked her head. She grabbed a near empty beer can from the floor and brought it to her lips. Warm liquid fell from her lips and flowed south to her chin, pooling in the crevasse of her neck. She cringed at the warm, flat taste and placed the can back on the floor before tossing an arm over her eyes and praying sleep would take the aches away.

Just as she was slipping back into blissful slumber, an almighty explosion rocked her bones and brought back the kiddish fear of duck and cover drills in school. Daisy flew up, as did everyone else. Nick banged his head on the coffee table and fell back down, groaning and rubbing the reddening spot. A purple bump would later settle in.

Bonnie plugged her ears, afraid of the sudden sound. Her initial assumption was war. Another country silently invaded and their target was Hollywood, where all the stars were. To top it all, the neighbor began to shout profanities about damned longhairs and pounded on the thin wall. The baby from doors down, with a hatred for the older man's rough, throaty smoker's voice, hollered.

Daniel pushed James off of him. His bones cracked as he stood and stretched. He shuffled to the door hunchbacked and muttering.

"What in the actual f—" Daniel's mouth and heart twisted and tightened. He slammed the door, but their attentions had already fallen upon him.

He leaped over James and Bonnie, plunging onto the slick balcony and jumping over the rail.

"Oh my god!" Bonnie screamed.

They all ran to the balcony as the knocks transferred to Bonnie and Daisy's door. Their feet slipped, forcing them to cling to one another. Nick stayed in the doorway since all of them couldn't fit and he was the tallest. Daniel, shirtless, hung on the fire escape, slowly making his way downward.

"Daniel, what the hell?!" Daisy shouted, leaned over the rail.

James's underarms grew sweaty at the sight of his friend dangling several stories and losing his hold. "Dude!" He shoved an arm above Daniel's head.
