It was a fine morning and Jonny rose out of bed. It was early, and the sun was barely starting to rise. Jonny and Willy raced each other out to the corrals. They slid on some horses and ripped off for an early morning ride. Alisha woke up and slipped out of bed. She walked into the kitchen to find Mrs. Benson cooking a hearty breakfast. That morning was spent having fun and playing games between the younger ones. Even Charles joined in for horse races and arm wrestling matches. Jonny was surprised how strong Alisha was. Although she was the more pretty, proper type, she was not weak. She could carry things that Jonny would normally raise an eyebrow at. He really did love her, though he had not told her to that extent. He knew she loved him just the same and Jonny knew that he would marry her. Maybe sometime soon. As ma always said "The sooner the better." Early that afternoon Jonny was washing dishes from lunch when Brad yelled from the creek, "Fish! Fish! a school of fish!!" Every one ran pell mell down to the creek with buckets, pans, and knives. Some stabbed the fish through while others would clean their entrails out. It was exciting. Jonny had't had fish meat since they lived in Mississippi. Now they could store it up for a summer treat! They carried loads to the house and still more were coming. Even Coony swan in and grabbed one. He was selfish though, Jonny would catch one and he would drop his and run over and steal Jonny's. Then Jonny would tell him a quick firm, "No."
It was good times and they had stored a lot of fish meat. Now Jonny couldn't wait to eat it.
