Imogen Jordans and her teenage daughter Bethany had been through a lot lately. Imogen had finally managed to escape from an abusive relationship and had moved with her daughter to Louisiana, where they had found a beautiful old plantation that they planned to renovate and make into their new home.

As they stepped inside the old house, they could feel the weight of its history. The creaky floorboards, the peeling wallpaper, and the musty smell of neglect only added to the spooky atmosphere. But they were determined to make the place their own.

The first few days went smoothly enough. They got to work on the renovations, and Bethany was happy to help her mother with the heavy lifting. But as the sun went down, things began to change. They would hear footsteps in the hallways, doors would slam shut on their own, and strange shadows seemed to lurk in the corners of their vision.

Imogen tried to ignore it, but she couldn't shake the feeling that they weren't alone in the house. And when Bethany began to have nightmares, she knew something was wrong.

One night, as they were getting ready for bed, Bethany suddenly froze. "Mom," she whispered, "look."

Imogen turned to see what had caught her daughter's attention. At first, she couldn't see anything out of the ordinary, but then she noticed a faint outline in the darkness.

It was a figure, a woman in a long white dress, standing at the foot of their bed. Imogen felt her heart racing as she stared at the spectral apparition. The woman's face was distorted and twisted in pain, and her eyes seemed to bore into Imogen's soul.

"Who are you?" Imogen whispered.

The woman didn't answer. Instead, she raised her arms, and Imogen could feel a cold breeze blowing through the room. It was as if the ghostly figure was trying to communicate with them, but Imogen didn't know what she wanted.

As suddenly as she had appeared, the ghostly figure disappeared. Imogen and Bethany were left alone in the darkness, trembling with fear.

The next morning, Imogen decided to do some research on the history of the plantation. She learned that it had once been owned by a wealthy family, who had used slaves to work the land. But one day, a terrible tragedy had occurred. The owner's daughter, a beautiful young woman, had fallen in love with one of the slaves. When her father found out, he had the slave beaten and sold away, and the daughter had died of a broken heart.
