ANOTHER CHAPTER YAY if I feel like it I might write another one later because I'm kinda into it rn. I couldn't continue this one because it would be too long, so it had to be a short one :)

end is sorta rushed, but for good reason. it's supposed to fit in to the setting kinda??

Adronitis
n. frustration with how long it takes to get to know someone—spending the first few weeks chatting in their psychological entryway, with each subsequent conversation like entering a different anteroom, each a little closer to the center of the house—wishing instead that you could start there and work your way out, exchanging your deepest secrets first, before easing into casualness, until you’ve built up enough mystery over the years to ask them where they’re from, and what they do for a living.

"Eat shit asshole! Fall of your horse!" Gyro's voice echoed through the trees. I couldn't see him, but he was relatively close.

"Should we go check what they're up to?" I asked Diego, who- as usual- was figuring out the map.

"Mm... No, we need to get to this location outside of Kansas City before them, so we better get going." He never lifted his gaze from the map as he spoke, and let Silver Bullet focus on bringing him forward.

"I'm not opposed the idea of getting to the finish line faster, but why are you staring at the map if you know where we're going?" Athena and I followed after him, the voices from the woods fading more and more.

"Because I'm trying to filter out these doodles of yours to see the actual map."

"For the last time, it's not doodles! It's my handwriting!"

"...Uh-" He looked up at me like he was getting tired of my existence. "You're a lil' delusional, aren't you?"

"You're always talking about how I won't find a husband, but you're not really the ideal man yourself. How do you expect yourself to find anyone who'd ever love someone like you?" I smirked, but he smirked back.

"Sweetheart, I've already told you. I despise society, I'm not expecting myself to fall in love with anyone. There's not a single person I'd want anything other than sex or money from."

"Oh, really? So you see women as objects?"

"Not necessarily. I have respect for women, I just don't find them attractive."

"...Then why do you sleep with them?"

"Because men aren't as good in bed as them." He mentioned it casually, but that told me everything I needed to know and more.

"I see." He was experienced, and probably passionate in bed. Chances are women (and men) were coming back for more once they had a taste of it. I wonder if he was a good kisser too? He probably was, especially on the lips. Did he kiss his partners over the body as well? Was he a kisser in general? I mean, he must be good at it all if-

"What are you thinking about? If I'm good in bed or not?" His voice brought me back to reality, and I realized that was exactly what I was thinking about. Somewhere in my mind, I even considered how it'd feel to do it with him. My face flushed red, my heart started beating faster and my entire body got warm.

"Oh-" I covered my mouth with my hands and looked away from him, hoping he wouldn't notice my flustered state.

"WAIT-... WERE YOU ACTUALLY THINKING ABOUT THAT?!" He burst out in laughter, which only made me more embarrassed.

"I- It's not funny!" I shouted in the middle of my embarrassment. "You were the one who started talking about sex!"

"I was talking about money too, but you clearly only focus on the important stuff." He winked at me, and it hit me what a terrible situation I was in.

I was finding myself attracted to Diego.

"So, uh... Kansas city?"

"Changing the subject again, huh? Alright, yes. We need to head northeast for a bit before changing back to north. It will take a few hours, but we need the time to get the corpse."

"Wait, wait, wait... I never agreed to join you in getting the corpse. Once we're in Kansas, I'm heading straight to the 5th stage. Also, Kansas city has water and beds to sleep in. We'll have all the time in the world to get the corpse after we reach the finish line, since we're staying in town for the night."

"But Gyro and Johnny will go for the corpse first, which means we need to do that too. Also, you said 'I never agreed to join you in getting the corpse', but kept saying 'we' when talking about Kansas." He grinned.

"...Let's just get the goddamn corpse..."

We weren't far from the location when I felt raindrops on my arm. Judging by Diego's frustration, I'd say he noticed too.

"What the hell, Y/N?!" He wiped off the raindrops furiously, trying to see what was ahead of us.

"It's not me this time, it's the actual weather." I explained.

"Well, it's bothering me..."

"...Good." I mumbled.

"What was that?!"

"Nothing!"

"You should be careful with what you say and do, Y/N. Johnny and Gyro will see you as a threat once they see us here together. If I choose to ditch you, it'll technically be three against one." He explained without his usual teasing tone.

"I know, but I'm not on anyone's side. I'm here for my map, remember?"

"Yeah, yeah..." Two sets of hooves approached from behind us, and we were forced to speed up quickly.

"How the hell did they get here so fast?!" Diego shouted, and I shrugged.

"No idea, but we have to speed up before they get within range!" I shouted back, and we attempted to speed up. Even glancing backwards quickly could result in a loss, so I kept my gaze forward.

Not long after, my horse stumbled forward before falling to the ground. Diego's horse tripped as well, but remained standing for the most part.

"AHHH!" I yelled as I fell to the ground, rolling away from my horse. My foot hurt like a bitch, so I probably twisted my ankle or something.

"Y/N!" Diego ran over to me, helping me sit up as he placed an arm around me. "Shit, okay, listen."

"Diego, you have to go!"

"No, here." He handed me my map and helped me over to my horse. "Silver Bullet is hurt, but I have to at least try to pursue them. Go to the finish line, hurry!"

"But Diego, I can't just leave you like this! I have to help!"

"Shut up!" He leaned down and grabbed my thighs, helping me onto my horse.

"Whoa! What are you doing?!" I exclaimed, holding onto his shoulders.

"Run, hurry! Get out of here quickly. I hear something in the distance, there's someone else here."

"But-"

"Go!" I did as he demanded, clutching the map in my hand as Athena rushed through the storm. I couldn't help but sob, everything happened too quickly. I'm glad Athena was fine, but I barely even understood what was going on. I know Silver Bullet was hurt, but I didn't even have the time to check up on Diego. Was he hurt? Would his horse be okay? Why did I just leave him there?! Why the hell did he even take the time to help me out?! I glanced down at the map in my hand, reflecting on what he did.

He helped me, Diego Brando helped me.
