Retrouvailles
The feeling of happiness you experience when reuniting with someone you're close with after a long separation.Maybe it was karma, maybe it wasn't.
I had to force myself to stand up again after nearly drowning in hopelessness. I didn't know how I'd be able to get out of here any earlier, but I also didn't know if Diego would survive until then.
The eyes on the lamps the guards had turned into followed me as I paced back and forth. There wasn't anyone in this specific corridor right now, so I was left alone with my thoughts for a moment.
Perhaps, I could do some investigation until tonight? Yes, I could help Diego in other ways! At the moment, all I could do was trust him to survive, so I'd have to do something else in the meantime.
"Have fun, you two." I waved to the lamp-guards who looked pretty pissed off. I snuck away towards the room where the president had stolen the spine, hoping I'd find any trace of evidence nearby. Once I reached the door handle, I stopped. A loud cry was heard from the other end of the corridor.
"Help me!" Someone called. "Please, someone help me!"
As usual, I didn't think before I acted. I simply ran towards them. I found myself in a kitchen, noticing a young, pregnant woman on the floor. I recognized her, she was Lucy Steel. If my memory was correct, she's only 14.
"Hey, what are you doing here?" I asked as I knelt down next to her. "And why are you... Pregnant?"
"Y- You're Y/N, right? I've heard Stephen talking about you- you travel with Diego!" She exclaimed in her distressed state. Lucy was holding onto a chair, trying to get up from the floor.
"I am. Here, let me help you." I held out my arm for her to grab onto, slowly helping her get back on her feet.
"Thank you... Look, there's no time to lose! Do you know about the corpse?!" Her eyes pleaded to me, as if I was her last hope.
"The corpse? I do, but... Lucy, what's going on?" Before I knew it, she broke down into tears in my arms.
"Y/N, you have to help me, I don't know what I'm going to do, please!" I pulled out a chair for her to sit on, taking a look around to make sure we were alone.
"Explain the situation to me, I'll try my best." I assured her, and she wiped away her tears.
"Stephen, he's... He's hurt! Valentine won't help him, and I... I'm pregnant with the corpse!" She sobbed.
"Sorry... What?"
"I know it doesn't make sense, but there's no time! I don't know what Valentine will do once the corpse is reborn, but you have to help me! You have to help Stephen! Please stop Valentine, Y/N!" She pleaded once again.
"Lucy, I understand your situation, but I can't promise you a good result. I'm meeting Diego later tonight, but I fear that he's fighting with Valentine as we speak."
"No! You don't understand, you need more people. Valentine is invincible, you have to gather Gyro and Johnny as well! They need to help you!" Tears streamed down her face by now, and I tried my best to comfort her.
"I promise I'll try, but... Lucy, do you happen to know anything else about this corpse?"
"No..." She sobbed. "I don't know a lot, but I have a theory. Judging by what Valentine's subordinates have said, I think...
