IT TOOK ALL FOUR OF US (Anna was still on the sofa) to hold back the satyr.

"Whoa, Coach!" Anna said, as I helped her stand. "Bring it down a few notches."

A younger man charged into the room. That must be Lit, the guy's son. He reminded me of someone, but I couldn't place who. Stupid fucking memory. He was dressed in pajama pants with a sleeveless T-shirt that said cornhuskers, and he held a sword that looked like it could husk a lot of things besides corn. His ripped arms were covered in scars, and his face, framed by curly dark hair, would've been handsome if it wasn't also sliced up.

His eyes flicked over all of us, barely glancing at Piper and Leo, raising an eyebrow at Emma as if he knew her. He then looked at Anna from top to bottom, and then looked at my arm around her waist, supporting her weight. He was clearly checking her out. At this, I cleared my throat and Anna gave him her death glare (which even though she was looking half dead, managed o make him flinch) and Lit finally looked at me.

His eyes immedietly went to my biceps, before stopping at the tattoo on my arm. He then walked towards us, swinging his sword, clearly zeroing us as the biggest threat.

"Hold on!" Piper stepped forward, trying for her best calming voice. "This is just a misunderstanding! Everything's fine."

Lit stopped in his tracks, but he still looked wary. It didn't help that Hedge was screaming, "I'll get them! Don't worry!"

"Coach," Anna ordered, "they may be friendly. Besides, we're trespassing in their house."

"Thank you!" said the old man in the bathrobe. "Now, who are you, and why are you here?"

"First, let's all put our weapons down," Emma said. "Coach, you first."

Hedge clenched his jaw. "Just one thwack?"

"No," Anna said, her jaw set. From the look on her face, Hedge was going to get 'one thwack' if he didn't shut up.

"What about a compromise? I'll kill them first, and if it turns out they were friendly, I'll apologize."

Anna just glared

"Meh." Coach Hedge lowered his club.

Then Anna seemed to have changed her plan, and gave Lit a friendly sorry-about-that smile. Even with her hair messed up and wearing two-day-old clothes, she looked extremely pretty and I felt a little jealous she was giving Lit that smile.
