Immy waddled down the hallway, opening the kitchen door and switching the light on. Bruno lifted his head and looked up at her from where he was laid in his basket, soon deciding that sleep was more important than being nosey.
Immy tightened the belt on her dressing gown and went to fill the kettle up. She couldn't sleep so had come downstairs to make a hot chocolate.
She glanced at the clock on the wall. It was 4am. Another day had arrived. Another day of being pregnant.
Squeak was now six days overdue and Immy was fed up. Fed up of being fat, fed up of not being able to get comfortable, fed up of heartburn. Just generally fed up.
She switched the kettle on, got a mug out of the cupboard and spooned some hot chocolate powder into it.
Today was the 23rd of January. It was the date that Noah had been due the year before. Maybe today would be the day his little brother or sister was born.
She began to wonder what Squeak would look like. Would he or she have blonde hair like Seb and Noah? Or brown hair like her? Would he or she have that charming Vettel grin?
Her thoughts turned to Noah. How would he react to having a baby around? It was something that had been playing on her mind lately. He was so used to being the centre of attention. Would he get jealous having to share his parents with a new baby?
The kettle clicked off. Immy picked it up and poured the hot water into the mug. She stirred the drink until the powder had dissolved, then she carried the mug over to the table. She didn't want to disturb Seb by taking it upstairs. He'd been fast asleep when she'd got up, snoring his head off.
She had come to the conclusion that he wasn't a man at all. He was an angel. He'd literally been the most loving, attentive partner anyone could wish for. He'd cooked, cleaned, and done pretty much everything over the last month. He'd refused to let her lift a finger, telling her she needed to rest in case she went into labour and needed as much energy as possible. He'd run her a warm bath every evening, and then given her a foot rub before bringing her hot chocolate in bed. He really was perfect.
She gave a long yawn. She was still tired. She had only managed to get a few hours of broken sleep. Maybe after her hot chocolate she'd be able to get some more.
She drank it, put her mug into the sink and then headed back upstairs. She looked in on Noah, smiling at how cute he looked.
Next she headed to the toilet. She sat down to relieve herself, then gasped as she noticed the jelly like substance in her underwear. It was streaked with blood. Her mucus plug! This could be a sign that labour wasn't far off.
She got up and snuck back into the bedroom for some clean underwear. Then she returned to the bathroom and changed into it, slipping a maternity pad in them.
After washing her hands she went back and got into bed next to the still sleeping Seb. She snuggled up to him, smiling as she thought that it was nearly over. Soon she'd have her baby in her arms.
She drifted off easily and when she woke the sun was shining through a gap in the curtains. Her head was laid on Seb's chest. One of her legs was draped over him and his hand was stroking lightly up and down her spine. She looked up into his blue eyes.
"Good morning," he murmured.
"Morning," she replied.
"How did you sleep?"
"Not great to be honest with you. I got up for a hot chocolate about four o'clock." She glanced at the alarm clock, surprised to see it was nearly 9.30. "I've just managed nearly five hours though."
