The past progressive

El pasado continuo ("past progressive") se utiliza para hablar de acciones que ocurrieron durante un tiempo en el pasado. En español equivale normalmente a "estaba + gerundio".

At 9 o'clock in the morning I was reading a book.
A las 9 en la mañana yo estaba leyendo un libro.

8:30 a.m. → I began reading.
9:00 a.m. → I was reading.
10:00 a.m → I stopped reading.


I WAS READING.

El "past progressive" se construye con la forma pasada del verbo "to be" ("was/were") y la forma progresivo ("-ing") del verbo.

Forma afirmativa

Singular

1. pers. I was doing
2. pers. You were watching
3. pers. He, she, it was working

Plural

1. pers. We were playing
2. pers. You were running
3. pers. They were singing

Forma negativa

Singular

1. pers. I was not/wasn't doing
2. pers. You were not/weren't watching
3. pers. He, she, it was not/wasn't working

Plural

1. pers. We were not/weren't playing
2. pers. You were not/weren't running
3. pers. They were not/weren't singing

Forma interrogativa

Singular

1. pers. Was I doing?
2. pers. Were you watching?
3. pers. Was he, she, it working?

Plural

1. pers. Were we playing?
2. pers. Were you running?
3. pers. Were they singing?
