El pasado continuo ("past progressive") se utiliza para hablar de acciones que ocurrieron durante un tiempo en el pasado. En español equivale normalmente a "estaba + gerundio".
At 9 o'clock in the morning I was reading a book.
A las 9 en la mañana yo estaba leyendo un libro.8:30 a.m. → I began reading.
9:00 a.m. → I was reading.
10:00 a.m → I stopped reading.↓
I WAS READING.El "past progressive" se construye con la forma pasada del verbo "to be" ("was/were") y la forma progresivo ("-ing") del verbo.
