Jake:
My head was buzzing and actually I had planned to just stay at home today. I also had an extreme headache at school, which I partly associated with Estela. It wasn't directly her fault, but I was giving myself a headache with my decision and I had made that decision because of her.
I was heading to my car when it was requested in the team's group chat that we would have a late practice today. By that, they simply mean we're going to do a few laps at night.
This term doesn't really exist, but Jay and Heeseung came up with this idea once. On the one hand, there was something good about it. Since the sun wasn't up in the sky, it wasn't too hot in the gear. The only disadvantage was simply the noise we made. It was already late and I am sure that others would like to sleep.
I started the engine of my car and put my cell phone on the passenger seat. Mindful that I had a headache, I had swallowed a pill or two and partially I was feeling better. Where as... head-wise I might have felt better, but still I felt a certain pressure on me.
The little girl was missing next to me. She relaxed me most of the time and on top of that she made me forget stress and pressure. Since I was so smart and asked her to keep her distance, all the factors were now pelting me. I would get through it though. Still, I just hoped that maybe she would get back to me and finally tell me how she felt.
My little freak out had been rather unplanned and actually I didn't want to tell her about my feelings because I knew she was confused, but certain jealousy had gripped me when she spoke of Heeseung once again. It had hurt me to know that when she was with me, she was thinking about him.
Because I was caught up in my thoughts most of the time, the drive to the race track seemed to have turned out a little shorter, and I got out sighing as I heard my team already chatting. I noticed Heeseung's car and closed my eyes for a moment. I shook my head, forcing myself not to think about it, and then joined the others.
"And the last one is finally here, too." Heeseung lifted his head and caught sight of me. He rolled his eyes, but then re-focused. I greeted everyone and then listened to Oliver's wishes. He was the oldest of us, which sort of gave him the say.
"Just a lap or two. The ground is soft, which means you'll have to push a little harder coming out of the corners. Watch yourselves and I'll time you." We all nodded and I walked over to my garage.
TimeSkip:
My time wasn't the best today, but I didn't care. I definitely didn't feel like it and it showed.
"Jake!" I only heard my name muffled through the helmet, but still I stepped off the gas and pulled up to Oliver, who was holding the stopwatch. The whole place was only slightly lit up, but we could see each other very well, which lessened the danger.
"What's going on? You're going almost more than half as slow." With one leg on the ground, I steadied my seat on my bike and took my helmet off my head. I shrugged my shoulders and brushed my curls out of my face. "Not my day, sorry."
That was the only thing I could think of to say, and I felt that was also a good explanation for my failure. You couldn't be equally good every day. Oliver looked at me a little disappointed and then indicated that it was okay. Fortunately, the idiot understood me.
"Then I won't make you do it again today. But please come again before the race and let me time you." I nodded in response and restarted my bike's engine. I had my helmet hooked to the handlebars and slowly I let myself roll backwards a bit and then rode off the track.
The others were still riding and were in the back because the engine noise was still a little quieter. "Hey and Jake?" I lifted my head. "Don't worry about it so much. You look all stressed out."
Oliver smirked, trying to loosen me up a little. I gave him a brotherly smile, but right after that I thought about those light brown eyes again. The eyes which always beamed at me.
With skillful and mechanical movements I brought my bike and myself into the right position to drive off the track. While doing so, I looked fixedly at the ground and wondered what she was doing. She was probably at the hospital with her grandmother.
Jay had mentioned just before practice that he was having lunch with her and Melissa. I would have loved to have been there too, but I couldn't bring myself to do that. Not after I just ditched her last night.
Before I would speed up, I rubbed my face once and groaned in exhaustion. Really good job, Jake. You've even got it in you to fall for a girl with a crush. Talent... Pure talent.
I accelerated with my right hand, but jerked my head up when the engine sounds of the others were suddenly very loud. I caught sight of the numbers 99 and 15, Jay and Heeseung.
Heeseung had gotten the jump wrong and was not aiming for a good landing. I watched as he wrenched his bike to the left and caused Jay to kiss the ground. Fortunately, the Korean landed in the straw bale on the side that served as protection. His bike, however, flipped over several times and Heeseung's flew diagonally through the air.
It all happened very quickly and I didn't even realize that everything was coming at me. I couldn't do much with my human reaction time. Reflexively, I raised my arms and tried to protect myself.
Heeseung jerked his bike to the left again and jumped off the saddle. I had no idea where he had landed, but within seconds an indescribable force yanked me to the ground and pressed me into him.
I tried to protect myself and wanted to get away from there. But that was no longer possible when the far too fast, riderless bikes reached me. Sharp pain made itself felt and instinctively I held my chest as the force of the impact continued to pull me along.
I had no idea how far it was taking me, but my bike was no longer under me, it was above me. Then suddenly... Suddenly it was completely silent. At least for me.
I think I was lying sideways under one of the bikes and only dimly I kept my eyes open. Aware that nothing was right anymore, I tried to orient myself. Very slightly I lifted my head and caught sight of my helmet a few meters in front of me. Warm liquid was running down the side of my head and my breathing was more than a little affected.
"Shit!"
I couldn't identify that voice anymore, but I could feel someone starting to get the bikes off me. "Ambulance!"
With the expectation that I would be able to breathe freely again once they took the load off me, I wanted to take a deep breath, but a wrenching pain prevented me from doing so.
Short of breath, I tried to turn, but stopped when everything spun around and a loud beeping noise irritated my sense of hearing. My whole chest ached and when I tried to lift my right arm, I contorted my face as my shoulder was probably out of place.
The adrenaline, which I didn't even really get to feel, left me and all the pain attacked my consciousness, which then unfortunately left me. Not slowly, no. Damn fast a force that wasn't normal yanked me into a dark hole and everything inside me shut down.
Unconscious, I hoped that I would wake up again.
A/N: I'm sorry my dear ones. Maybe there will be another chapter tomorrow :)
