Sage paused and turned to Brimstone, giving him a look before placing down the cutting tool and crossing her arms in front of her chest, raising an eyebrow at him. The older could feel her gaze on him, getting sharper by the second.
Chamber noticed as well, curiosity now running through his whole body. What?
"Which in this case, is going to be your job. You're going to protect her for the second time." Chamber chose one of the empty chairs circling around the huge table Brimstone had in his office for all of the agents. "If I may ask, why, monsieur?"
"The Kingdom is after her according to the reports Cypher sent me earlier this morning. She's in danger and we never know when they'll start attacking her." Brimstone switched to the intercom, scrolling through the messages Cypher sent him after flipping through the pages of Chamber's report.
"Why would she be in danger? Because of those men?" Sage questioned, head tilting in confusion. Brimstone replied with a sigh, shaking his head in dissatisfaction. "That, I'm not sure but we're having quite a problem here. I will talk to you about it later, Sage." The man in his fifties grabbed a file filled with documents that contained information about people from Kingdom, placing it on top of his table for Sage to go through.
Chamber glanced at the file name. Fracture. Heh, I see. The middle-aged man thought to himself as memories of his previous personal mission came flooding in his mind.
"As for now, I cannot tell you the reason why until I've discussed this further with Sage and Cypher. I hope you're alright with that." Chamber gave Brimstone a nod, agreeing with his words before getting up, still wondering about the real reason why. "I see. Thank you for having me today. I'm guessing you're going to be sending me details of the mission when you've decided?"
"Yes, we will. Rest up, Chamber. Thank you for your work." Sage bid goodbye to him, giving him a small wave before smiling, waiting for him to exit the office.
If she's in danger and it's my job to protect her, I will do my best to do so.
As soon as the latter left, Sage got up from her seat with the cutting tool in her hand and placed it on one of the tool holders she wore around her waist, ready to be washed. As she approached their leader, she adjusted the plain, black hairtie she was wearing and later on placed back the traditional hairpin she had. "Brim,"
"Sage, I need to discuss a few things with you."
"Is it really just a few things?" The younger placed the plant by the window where it could absorb sunlight. Another head shaking in disagreement was given from Brimstone. "It's the Kingdom. We've really been having problems with them ever since Valorant existed." The older removed his orange beret, brushing his hair up, slowly getting stressed and tired about the situation Sabine was currently in.
"I know. They can be a pain in the ass from time to time. But what is it this time?" Sage's attention averted to the intercom, skimming through the information Cypher had sent Brimstone, in which, he didn't bother hiding nor closing and instead let her read everything.
"It's just that one person. I'm asking Chamber to protect her because surely, he's able to take them out with his abilities and skills."
"I wonder why specifically her. Has Cypher cracked the code?" Brimstone shook his head for the third time, shrugging. "I don't know. I'll hear about it from him tomorrow or even in a few days. But, I do want the Valorant Protocol to protect her in any way possible since we've already come in contact with her."
"Hm, I see. I wouldn't want to stress him out about this." Sage pulled out one of the chairs and led Brimstone to it, making him sit down before giving him a cup of tea she made a few minutes ago. Tiny steam came out of the cup, giving him a sign that the tea was still hot. "Brim, rest. I'll take care of this."
Without noticing it earlier until now, his eyelids felt heavier second by second. "I guess so. I'll drink this first then I'll go to sleep."
It took Brimstone about thirty minutes to finish the tea Sage made before walking to his room, finally resting that night. Thankful for their second in-command agent while Sage was in deep thought, going back to the night the incident happened.
The lady in her late twenties rested her index finger on her chin, eyebrows furrowed in deep thought and glanced at the clock hung on top of Brimstone's computer set-up that he sometimes had a hard time using due to the new and updated technology.
Why would the kingdom even want her?
For the whole night, Chamber kept tossing and turning, unable to find the right sleeping position. Once he felt enough frustration, he sat up on his bed, taking a deep breath before making himself some chamomile tea to sooth his bothered nerves.
But neither the tea nor the classical music he played while in bed helped. Usually, he'd be tired from such missions and would pass out in no time. Though, tonight was different. Was it because of what Brimstone had told him and Sage in his office?
Chamber let out a frustrated sigh, massaging the side of his head, preventing himself from stressing out even more.
Tonight was going to be a long night.
An idea popped up in his head ㅡ not a good one nor a bad one but one that he might regret once he wakes up in the morning. He grabbed his phone and opened the contacts app, scrolling down a bit to the letter J and pressed the small telephone icon beside Jett's name.
After a few rings, the cheery agent picked up. "What's up, croissant?" Of course. How did I not see that coming?
"Would you like to come over to my room and help me sleep tonight?"
