Season 1 - Episode 1
A few months earlier
“Derek, help me talk some sense into your sister.”
Laura ignores her younger cousin as she continues to pack a bag for the road. Isabelle crosses her arms and berugendly watches. Laura glanced up, smiling to try and get a smile out of her sister figure. No smile formed on Isabelle's lips.
“Bellie,”
“No, don't Bellie me!”
Isabelle walks up to the bed and snatches Laura's bag. “This is ridiculous. Just because someone decided to brand a deer, it is not a valid reason to return to Beacon Hills.”
“She’s right.” Derek walked in the room, holding in his hands the flier that had been anonymously sent to Laura. The flier had only a picture of the aforementioned deer. But not with any regular brand. The dead deer had a spiral on its side, one that was most popular in the supernatural world.
“Even if it’s true, this feels too much like a trap.”
Laura takes the flier from her brother and stuffs it in her coat pocket. “Trap or no trap Derek. I have to check it out.”
“Because that’s healthy,” Isabelle sassed. “You're going back to the town that tried to kill us.”
Laura smiled sorrowfully at her little sister. Isabelle was only 9 when they fled Beacon Hills, and she was present the night of the fire. They had lived peacefully with their parents and the rest of their family. Now it was just the 3 of them.
“Hey look I will call the second I get there.” Laura promised. “Hannah is helping me, she’s going to stop by for a while. I will be fine.” She smiled. “Maybe I can give something to Lydia?”
Isabelle perched up at the mention of her old childhood friend. Six years ago Lydia and Isabelle were as close as peas in a pot. They did everything together. Went everywhere together. Isabelle was sad to leave her, she didn’t even get a chance to say goodbye. Derek and Laura made the decision to leave Beacon Hills as soon as she was stable. And Lydia's parents didn’t want their daughter to visit so soon. She couldn’t blame them for that.
They never even returned for their family’s funerals.
Isabelle shakes away the small speck of hope that had bubbled in her chest at the memory of her friend. She still talked to her online, they video chatted and Lydia always visited when she could.
If Hannah, Lydia's older sister and Laura's best friend, was helping her, maybe it would be okay. Maybe.
Laura zipped up her suitcase, took her bag and adjusted the strap over her shoulder. Derek and Isabelle stare at their older sister, neither of them were pleased with her decision. They had aired about it the night before, and the week before, when she had gotten the flier and decided to investigate. Laura tried to get past them but they didn’t budge.
“You guys-“
“Laura.”
Laura sighed. “I will be back. I promise. But I’m going.”
