Shane nursed his cup of whiskey as Victoria hurried around the kitchen preparing dinner. There were some things that Shane never did when visiting his brother, 1 of which happened to be ever underestimating her. As hunters, it's hard enough to date and marry someone. Most of the time when they find out about their little secret, they become scared and run away. Which is why most of the time, hunters married hunters.
Not Victoria. She didn't run, in fact, she was a hunter herself. In their "community" hunters didn't lead. Men are the cause of wars, women have always been better suited leaders. It's why the men in the families are trained to be soldiers, and the women leaders.
Not to mention, even after knowing Victoria for about 20 years. He was still terrified of her.
"So Gerard doesn't know that Allison used to date a werewolf?" Shane questioned grinning. "I can't believe you actually let them go to the game."
"He's the principal." Chris reminded him as he started setting the table. "He would have gone to a game at some point."
"And who's fault is that?" Shane wondered mockingly as he finished off his drink. He heard the jingle of the keys out front and took his coat. Chris stared at him.
"You're leaving?"
"I never said I was staying." As he shrugged on his coat, Allison and Gerard appeared at the kitchen door.
"Oh good!" Victoria exclaimed. "You're back. Dinner's almost ready."
When Allison saw Shane looking like he was leaving, she pouted. "You're leaving?"
Shane felt himself start to cave when he saw the look on her face. "Sorry Al, I can't stay." Allison continued to pout.
"How was the game?" Chris asked, clearly to change the subject.
Gerard grinned. "Why don't you ask the star player?"
That made the brothers frown in confusion. Scott stepped into view, Victoria dropped the spoons and Shane almost choked on his drink.
Scott McCall smiled sheepishly. "Hi."
Allison looked at Shane again, this time pleasingly. Shane sighed and shrugged off his coat. "On second thought, maybe I will stay for dinner."
Shane was almost sure that Chris was sending him daggers for saying he would stay as he helped Victoria set the table. He texted Hannah quickly that he couldn't make it for dinner. She returned his message in all caps urging to talk to him.
Shane stepped away for a minute. "What is it Han?"
"It's Lydia," Hannah said, panicked. "I know you said I had nothing to worry about but this morning she punched her mirror with no recollection of it."
Shane looked to see everyone settling into their seats for dinner as Victoria finished setting up the table with Allison's help. He didn't have much time.
"No werewolf has ever turned like that." Shane told her.
"Well what if she's not becoming a werewolf." Hannah reasoned. "What if she's becoming like me? You know that in the beginning I never remembered anything."
Shane paused. Even after almost 10 years, he could only come to some conclusions as to what Hannah was. At first they thought she was psychic, then she had to be something, but they could never figure it out.
Shane sighed. "I'll stop by later, I promise. But I have to go."
Hannah took a breath. "Thanks and Good luck."
