Chapter 7: The Curse: Vampire and Subject

When Haechan blinks awake, he finds Tae-il sitting up with Shin-won and Kyung-hwa bent down on either side of him. Feeling a rush of protectiveness and anger from being knocked out and seeing the distress on Tae-il's face, he scrambles to his feet like a drunkard and rushes at them with a burst of in-human-like speed.

"Back away from him!" he hisses, baring his teeth at them and feeling a sharp sting in his bottom lip.

"Whoa! Whoa!" Kyung-hwa says, skidding backward.

Shin-won throws his hands out before him. "We were only checking on him and we were about to come check on you too."

Haechan's arms wrap around Tae-il's arms. "I don't trust anyone with my Taeilie."

Shin-won looks at Kyung-hwa. "I mean he was clingy with him before...but this is nuts."

Tae-il and Haechan share a look with one another and Tae-il finally spots Haechan's sharp canines. He points at them with puzzled curiosity.

"What?" Haechan questions, his fingers shooting up to his face.

"You have..."

"I know...I'm a vampire, Taeilie," Haechan remarks. "I'll bite anyone who lays a hand on you without my consent."

"Hey! Snap out of it, Haechan-ah!" Kyung-hwa spits and claps at him.

"I can't breathe, Donghyuckie," Tae-il gasps. "Too tight. Also, I'm okay. I swear."

Haechan blinks and straightens up, relaxing his grip on Tae-il. He touches his lip and pulls his fingers back to see blood on them. "Dang, I guess I should ease up some...I'm drawing my own blood with my teeth."

Shin-won turns to look around him. "Where is everybody else?"

Tae-il and Haechan look around them.

"What happened, you two?" Shin-won interrogates.

Tae-il and Haechan's gazes come to lock on one another once more. They look utterly bewildered.

"We...don't...know..." Tae-il manages to say in a high-pitched whisper after a few seconds.

Kyung-hwa proceeds to explain, "We were in the kitchen in the house. We saw a bright white light and came outside to investigate. We found the two of you lying on the grass. Tae-il quickly came to, sitting up and looked like he was in pain, so that's why we came to check on him and we were about to go--"

Fury boils inside of Haechan as he growls out, "I'm gonna kill that son of a--"

"Watch your mouth, little one," Kyung-hwa scolds. "You're still too young and popular to be spewing out cuss words. Even if the situation calls for it."

"He turned me into a bloody vampire," Haechan snarls, pointing at his sharp canines.

"Who did? Also, that's a redundant statement," Shin-won states.

Tae-il looks at them both. "You weren't out here when that dragon guy showed up...?"

"Dragon...guy...?" Kyung-hwa questions.

"You don't believe me?" Tae-il whispers.

"Believe him!" Haechan growls, glaring at both Kyung-hwa and Shin-won.

"Dragons don't exist," Shin-won says. "Neither do giants, unicorns or a shortage of potatoes."

Kyung-hwa shoots him a look.

"Look," Tae-il says, waving his arms around before him. "We were wondering where the two of you went and then this dragon-guy named Jin Yong-sun showed up spewing nonsense - something about Mark Lee...and then next thing there was this flash of white light and then I woke up with a splitting headache..."

Haechan hugs Tae-il close to him. "I'll bite him for giving you a headache."

"Okay, so lemme get this straight here," Kyung-hwa says, tapping her chin in thought. "Jin Yong-sun, a dragon, shows up and transforms you into an over-the-top protective gay vampire and kidnaps the others?"

"There was a curse," Tae-il says and suddenly looks skyward. "Something about the blood moon...I don't think he kidnapped the others. I think they're transformed much like Donghyuckie is. But where are they?"

"They've got to be somewhere close by here..." She turns to look around her at the setting as though trying to see into the distance in every direction to see if she can spot the others.

"If you're a vampire," Shin-won says to Haechan, before turning to look at Tae-il. "What are you?"

Tae-il looks at Haechan and then at Shin-won. "Donghyuckie's lover?"

"Right!" Haechan shorts and suddenly grabs Tae-il by the chin, forcing his lips to meet the vampire's. They share a quick, passionate kiss with one another. After a few seconds, they break apart and Haechan glares at Shin-won, snarling out, "Hey, if there's no such thing as dragons and unicorns, what about vampires?"

"Touche, Haechan-ah," Shin-won says, ignoring the hostility. "I think we should go search for the others and try to figure something out about this curse."

Haechan and Tae-il get up to their feet and join Kyung-hwa and Shin-won.

"I agree," Kyung-hwa says. "Let's go find them."
