Poor old Shang Qinghua was painfully unaware of the grave that had just been dug for him. Nevertheless, he was enjoying himself by his good friend's side in the kitchen of Qing Jing peak. The Lord of said peak had had a "brilliant" idea in the dead of night, he had rushed over to Shang Qinghua's peaceful abode at an unspeakable hour to inform him of his genius. The brunette had been considerably upset at the interruption of his well-needed rest.
"Just listen, Cang Qiong mountain just received an import of potatoes from god knows where. Do you have any idea what this means?"
"No, I was just having the best dream ever but you woke me up..." the man replied wearily. He was still wearing his sleep atiree and was trying to rub the sleep out of his eyes.
"Potato chips you f***ing dumb**s. French fries! We can finally eat fast food damn it." Shen Qingqiu whisper yelled and Shang Qinghua couldn't stop himself from grimacing as he cringed at the formerly elegant and aloof Qing Jing peak Lord's use of such crass language. Of course, he knew that this was actually his cucumber bro and not that cruel yet refined Shen Jiu, he tended to find the vulgarity quite refreshing as he no longer needed to uphold a respectable or respectful persona. Although, when faced with even the smallest threat his well-put-together facade would quickly fade to reveal a very cowardly side of him, it was pitiful really.
"Well, who the hell are we waiting for? Let's go." Shang Qinghua pressed as he was eager for this idea to become a reality, after all, he was getting quite tired of snacking on his melon seeds. However, his excitement was only returned by the skeptical raise of an eyebrow as Shen yuan looked him up and down making the brunette flush in embarrassment, it quickly dawned on him that he was about to leave his house in what this world considered pajamas.
The two cultivators spent the entire morning in Qing Jing peak's kitchen attempting to fry uneven slices of potatoes.
"Aaah!!" Shang Qinghua wailed as hot oil splashed onto his hand from the pan. His colleague jumped at the sound.
"What the hell are you doing?"
"Don't look at me like that, I was just doing what you told me to." The man complained as he put his injured hand in a bucket of cold water. Shen Qingqiu rolled his eyes and grabbed the handle of one of the many boiling hot pots they had at their disposal.
"Well, I think the first batch is finished."
He removed the fried potato slices from the pot and poured salt over them. He was wondering how much he should salt he should use but before he knew it, he had poured half the bowl of salt on their homemade fries.
Fuck. That's going to taste like crap.
No matter, he would simply feed it to Shang Qinghua. The raven-haired man gave the inedible snack a disgusted look before handing one of the overly salted slices to his friend.
"Why don't you have the first try?" He smiled. The brunette looked at him, unbelieving, but he took the snack anyways. It was hot but not to the point it burned his finger, he took a bite, completely unsuspecting of the taste.
The man choked and gagged at the amount of salt covering the potato.
"WTF!"
Shen Qingqiu was laughing uncontrollably and the An Ding peak lord did not appreciate the gesture. He wanted to get his revenge and as a result, he grabbed a handful of the warm snacks and stuffed them in his colleague's mouth. He instantly stopped his giggling fit and almost threw up. Shang Qinghua hunched over as he cackled at his sweet revenge. It was much, much sweeter the whatever it was he had just eaten. Shen Qingqiu shot him a glare once he had finished spitting out the sorry excuses of a fry. His stare didn't intimidate Shang Qinghua as much as it usually did, well, it wouldn't intimidate anyone considering the state he was currently in. Hunched over an empty bucket, eyes teary and face flushed in both anger and from his previous laughing fit.
"Gordon Ramsay would be really disappointed..." Shen Qingqiu choked out after the two had emptied several jugs of water. Shang Qinghua laughed at the statement. The two had completed two more batches that weren't salted to the point of almost making two grown cultivators empty their insides out. Shang Qinghua left the peak and returned to the demon realm with his round potato fries. He hadn't returned in a little over a week so he hoped Mobei Jun wouldn't be too upset and yet as soon as he entered the palace he felt a chill run down his spine. He immediately knew he was being too hopeful, he really had to be the unluckiest person in the world. Shen Qingqiu had successfully evaded his imminent doom by somehow making Luo Binghe fall in love with him. And Shang Qinghua? He was still alive, yes, but at what cost? Being beaten every single time he stepped out of line, or when Mobei Jun needed someone to take his anger out on. He truly loved his character but sometimes he wished he had been born as someone else.
I mean come on it wasn't that hard to make the literal creator of this world a little more powerful.
He gulped as he walked through the seemingly endless hallways, surrounded by a powerful killing intent. He hadn't noticed how much he was shaking until his knees gave in. The brunette got up clumsily and picked up the wooden box he had dropped during his fall. He only walked a few steps before bumping into something.
Fuck.
It was Mobei Jun. He quickly stepped back and prostrated in front of him.
"My sincerest apologies, I wasn't looking where I was going and hindered my king."
There was only silence as Shang Qinghua began shaking even harder.
Just say something damnit, you're scaring me.
"Stand up" Mobei Jun ordered, venom dripping from his voice. Shang Qinghua did as he was told but he didn't even have time to glance at the kin before he felt something strong wrap around his neck, blocking his airways. He couldn't breathe, he was terrified, and his box filled with snacks fell to the ground once more, spilling all of his contents. The brunette felt himself being lifted off the ground. These were the times he wished he could be back in his apartment, sitting on his couch and watching TV.
I wish I had just died back then.
Mobei Jun tightened his grip on his servant's neck, tears streamed down the cultivator's cheeks at the thought. He expected this to be the end, but his king let go, and a look of terror flashed on his features before his usual stoic expression quickly took over once more.
"You were away too long, don't make that mistake again." Mobei Jun whispered with intent before turning around and walking off, his robes flowing elegantly behind him. Shang Qinghua was left coughing on the floor, he staggered over to his wooden box.
One minute rule I guess...
And he picked up the cold potatoes before storing them back in the box. He got over his fear rather quickly and headed back to his room. This happened quite often after all and yet Mobei Jun had yet to kill him, perhaps there was a reason for that, but he didn't ponder on it any longer.
Mobei Jun on the other hand wasn't so calm.
"I wish I had just died back then" These words echoed in his mind. Was he scared? Was he scared of losing Shang Qinghua the way he had lost everything else he had ever cared for?
