Shang Qinghua woke up with a headache, though that was nothing out of the ordinary. What was strange, however, was the fact he had yet again ended up in Mobei Jun's bed. He was still asleep, or so Shang Qinghua thought, so he took the opportunity to wiggle himself out of the king's cold embrace. He hadn't expected this to happen again, although this time he wasn't drunk and they didn't jerk each other off. He thought things would just go back to the way they were before; them avoiding each other. Part of him hoped Mobei Jun would be persistent and try to get him to stay. He wasn't that stupid as to not realize the demon wanted something from him, something that he also wanted to give, but the fear of misunderstanding him and making a fool of himself was too great. He had had few relationships in his past life but they all ended miserably, mainly because of Shang Qinghua's horrendous taste in men. He was afraid of how it could end between them, he thought he had forgotten about that part of his past but now the memories came to knock at his door.

He remembered how he struggled financially, and how that led to many debts. How his family never cared enough to show him onto the right path. He had hung around the wrong sort of people and had dug his own grave by falling for a gangster. A violent and manipulative man that ruined him. He believed he could "fix" him, but that was naïve of him. Although he regretted everything about it, he was also somewhat grateful. If it weren't for that toxic piece of shit he would have never holed himself up in his apartment and written PIDW.

He took a deep breath. This wasn't the time to think about the bad decisions he had made. He fumbled around in the dark, trying to get off the bed without making too much noise, but the demon-king-sized bed seemed almost endless. He reached out a hand and didn't feel a mattress beneath it.

Finally, the edge.

He was about to stand up but he felt something grab his shoulder. He gasped audibly at the contact; he feared the worst. The worst being a monster that was hiding beneath the king's bed had crawled out to eat him. It was his biggest fear as a child, maybe he thought of this because he had been reminiscing. He felt like an idiot when he heard Mobei Jun's deep voice.

"Where are you going?"

He felt relieved but was soon met with a wave of uneasiness. He didn't know what to say to him.

"I..."

He couldn't see the king's expression because of the dark but he felt himself being pulled towards him. Shang Qinghua's heart was pounding loudly, he could feel his face being pressed against the demon's chest.

"Why must you always leave?"

The brunette was surprised, he wondered if he had upset Mobei Jun. All he could do at that moment was wrap his arms tightly around the king's waist.

"Does my king want me to stay?"

Shang Qinghua was surprised at the hand that pushed his chin up.

"Mhm."

He could feel the demon's cool breath against his skin. He was close. The cultivator's hand trailed up his torso until it reached the king's face. He rubbed his thumb against his chilly cheek.

"Why?"

It was a simple question, but it held so much behind it, all of Shang Qinghua's doubts and fears.

"Why me?"

He asked again when Mobei Jun didn't answer. He felt an ache in his chest at the thought of the king's possible responses. He so desperately wanted to be cared for the way Mobei Jun had been doing recently, but for some reason, it didn't feel like enough. He craved more, to be more than a servant, more than whatever their current relationship was.

"Because I care for you."

Shang Qinghua wanted to cry tears of pure joy. His heart was beating so fast he felt it would explode any second. He still couldn't see Mobei Jun's face but he could feel the slight change in temperature as he uttered those words. His cheeks were just a tad bit warmer. He wrapped his arms around the demon's neck and felt himself being pressed tightly against the demon's body in return.

"I need you, Shang Qinghua."

The demon couldn't begin to express the things he felt for the man. He relied so much on his presence, and Shang Qinghua had never once hurt him. He wanted him to stay by his side. Nothing else mattered, he would watch his castle and all his belongings burn and he wouldn't feel a thing. As long as he could hold Shang Qinghua in his arms he could be happy. He wanted to feel him, to touch him, to spoil him. His heart fluttered when Shang Qinghua pressed his lips against his. It was gentle, for once Mobei Jun felt he could take his time, that the man before him wouldn't disappear at any given moment. He savored this moment, he wanted to freeze time as they held each other with so much feeling. But time won't stop for anyone or anything.

Shang Qinghua pulled away first. Too shy to say anything, he simply sat there.

"And you?"

Mobei Jun whispered in the man's ear. He already knew the answer but he wanted a confirmation. He wanted to be sure he wasn't placing his trust in someone who never cared for him in the first place.

"I... I don't think I have the words to describe just how relieved I am..."

He gulped, his cheeks turning bright red.

"I have adored my king since the day I laid eyes on you."

Mobei Jun was speechless. Was this true or was Shang Qinghua just spewing a few flattering words? He had been terrible to him in the past, just thinking about it made him nauseous. And as if he could read his mind, Shang Qinghua blurted out;

"Please don't think that I like people who beat me up, I'm really not into that stuff. I just thought my king was really handsome and... well, there was something about my king that intrigued me, I guess. But-"

Mobei Jun covered the man's mouth with his hand. As much as he loved hearing his voice, his rambling was just going to make them both nervous.

"I understand."

He said with a small smile before removing his hand.

"Oh-"

Shang Qinghua was clearly flustered but ultimately happy. Who wouldn't be?

"Does this mean you will stay?"

Mobei Jun's voice came out in a whisper. The cultivator tilted his head to the side.

"I never planned on leaving."

The king held him tightly, he felt relieved and unusually happy.

They stayed in bed that day, neither of them had the heart to leave each other's side.
