Shang Qinghua had lost count of how long he had been working for the infamous, immortal demon king Mobei Jun. What he did know, however, was that he was fed up with the amount of work he had. Balancing both his job as peak Lord of An ding peak in the Cang Qiong mountain sect and his job as Mobei Jun's loyal servant was no easy feat after all. If anyone were to find out he was serving a demon king he was toast. It's not like cultivators and demons got along in the first place. But as the author of the story he had been transmigrated to, Shang Qinghua thought no matter demon, human, or god all these characters were absolute trash. Except for his fellow millennial, Shen Qingqiu, and his beloved Mobei Jun whom he poured his heart and soul into creating. Out of all the hundreds of cannon fodder, good-for-nothing, side characters, the demon Lord of the North was by far his favorite. He was the only character who, in his opinion, had a realistic personality. Shang Qinghua had to admit that a major reason why he liked him was the demon's handsome appearance, and perhaps also the fact that he portrayed his family issues onto this character when writing him.
Ah, this brought back memories of his life before being transmigrated. Although he did miss modern technology and snacks, he didn't really have a reason to go back. He didn't have any friends, his relationship with his family was on thin ice and life had just been a struggle for money as he wrote web novels to try and make a living. But at least he didn't have to do hard labor in a snowy desert where the temperature reached almost uninhabitable levels, only to be put under the scorching sun all day telling people how to do their job because they were clearly incapable of doing it themselves. But at least he had friends, people he could laugh with. Even so, this was not the least bit healthy. Sickness was inevitable as this back and forth between climates persevered. The worst part was that he wasn't privy to any sick leave, or vacation at all for that matter. Even if the sect offered him time off it would all be spent working for the cold, anti-social, and egotistical demon king.
Shang Qinghua couldn't help but sigh as he carried a stack of scrolls to the palace library. He was exhausted, he hasn't gotten any sleep in two days and his head felt like it was being hammered in. His vision was blurry as he felt the world around him spin. That's when a familiar voice came from behind him.
"Shang Qinghua." The cold, deep voice called, sending shivers down his spine, or perhaps it was the cold that the man brought with him everywhere he went. It was Mobei Jun, his presence alone was unmistakable to the little peak Lord. He turned around and looked up at the tall, muscular figure before him.
"My king, what can this humble one do for you?" He smiled drowsily. His voice seemed to echo in his ears. There was only silence in response as he saw Mobei Jun glare at him from above. Had he done something to upset him? The brunette bit his lip in both worry and pain as his headache got worse.
"My king, if it is not a hindrance to your majesty, this humble one must return to work..." His voice was hoarse from his sore throat, he could barely force out the words.
"Shang Qinghua..." Mobei Jun began but he was interrupted by the cultivator's limp body falling forward. Mobei Jun caught the poor man in one swift move and held him in his arms.
Odd, he thought, why didn't I let him fall, he is merely a servant. I needn't concern myself with this human.
Was what he told himself but his actions betrayed his thoughts as he carried the man bridle style, ordering another of his many subordinates to take over Shang Qinghua's work for the day. The short demon gave an obviously forced smile, before scoffing when the king turned his back. Mobei Jun made a mental note to have that arrogant brat dealt with once he had the time. However, his hands were quite literally full right now. He gracefully moved across the cold marble floors toward the brunette's room. It was small and dimly lit. The floor and desk were covered in scattered paper and scrolls, ink spilled in various places. What a mess, the dark-haired man thought, an indifferent look on his face as he waltzed over to the small bed at the back of the room. He gently laid the unconscious man down on the mattress before covering his frail body with a blanket. What am I doing? The king wondered, When did I become so weak? He quickly pushed these pestering thoughts to the back of his mind. The raven-haired demon took one last glance at his servant before turning on his heel and leaving the room.
Now to find that arrogant pest.
Shang Qinghua woke up feeling just as bad as when he passed out.
Hold that thought.
Did I pass out in front of My king?
The cultivator was certain he was going to die. How would Mobei Jun take this? Probably not well. The demon king of The North or demons of royal lineage, in general, were known for their unpredictable tempers. He prayed he was in a relatively good mood and would only receive light punishment. Goodbye cucumber bro, this may well be my last day on this earth.
