NOVA CANE-
"Sky baby grab the napkins and set them at the table please." My ma told her.
She rolled her eyes before getting up and I mushed her head once she walked by.
I genuinely don't know what's going on with Sky, usually she was sweet and very considerate, always laughing at something's and was super outgoing.
Everybody washed their hands before fixing plates and sitting at the table. Every sunday night we have dinner as a family, no matter how bad our weeks were, or how busy we were, ma would always tell us that Sundays are reset days, and what's better than resetting with family.
We ate in silence for a while as animosity filled the room. Me, my paps, and Skylar, everybody was on edge about who was gonna have the nerve to start a conversation first.
"So, when are you coming back from your break?" My ma asked
"Now." I replied causing for my paps to look up at
me
"I mean i'm focusing on training, and then i'll have a rematch in two weeks." I added
"And who's training you for that ?" My paps chuckled
"Uncle D." I replied causing for the table to go silent
"Dion?" My ma asked before sitting her fork down
"I reached out to him this morning, told him my plans." I shrugged
"What plans ?" My paps asked
I cleared my throat before sitting my fork down and making eye contact with him.
"I'm taking the fight with Duke."
No one said anything for a while as my ma continued looking lost for words.
"I'm not training you for death." My paps chuckled
"I know, that's why I got somebody else to do it, permanently."I replied causing for his smile to fade.
"You think he's gonna prepare you to fight the greatest ?"
"See that's where you got me all wrong, I am the greatest." I replied
"He's the heavyweight champion of the fucking world Cane, You just lost yo State champ title to a local and yet you call that the greatest ??" He asked
"It's always something with you man." I chuckled
"You're gullible, he gave you bait and you took it like a dumbass." He replied
"Darek!" My ma called out
"Nova baby what your father is trying to say is that we care about you and we don't want you to work so hard just for you to need up getting hurt okay?" My ma replied
"If i'm not fighting towards the top then what am I fighting for ?" I asked.
The table went quiet causing for my paps to chuckle.
"I don't know what's funny, you're jobless and now you gotta find somebody else to doubt on." I replied before sliding him a packet of papers.
"What's all this?" Ma asked
"He's off my contract, he's officially a free man." I smiled before standing up
"That's not right.." My ma sighed
"Nah let him go, he doesn't know what it feels like to be blacked out and close to death, Head to the ground, all you hear is the vibrations from all the yelling, ringing through broth of your ears, Blood feeling like it's leaking out of every part of yo body,If he wants to end his career for five seconds of fame? let him do that." My paps replied
