The souls of the departed moan. Each of their sounds differently yet at the same tone. As we walked further the sound of the dead became more and more Recognizable. Isolde who was now able to walk with her stick was starting to work out her foot. The stick creaked with each step. "So...what's this river?"
"The river styx. River of Hatred and Oaths, that if you swear on it, and break it, a curse shall come upon you or someone you care for." Thamryis replied,
"Eesh. Alrighty which one is that on?" I pointed. "River Acheron. The River of Misery and Woe."
"Oof." I say, "How about that one?"
"Oh come on" he muttered "kid, that's Cocytus. River of Wailing."
"Wonderful," I commented. "And Don't ask, yes. The River Phlegethon, leads to Tartarus." Thamyris Adds.
I whistle. "So what's with this whole Greek Gods, Greek mythology stuff in the real world?" I ask. "Now that is something I'm willing to answer." He saids, " The Gods are real." He oddly declares. "Like the Greek Gods" I add. "Like the ones you learn about but weren't paying attention to." Sulis Behind us grins. Thamryis shakes his head, "Well, they don't pay attention to you, either, especially if you're their kid" with that reassuring statement, we look at eachother. "Your point?" I ask.
"It means that they're connected to human culture. And the western civilization. When Civilization moves, the Gods move with it. Aka New York, Empire State Building. Even sometimes, though they'll probably blast me to bits right now, as I say this because they wouldn't want to admit in the slightest. When Society changes, they change too." He claimed. I nod, "Right. Because humans are the ones to write it down. Divine inspiration. Though what about the gods or figures that had minimal, or never had stories at all?" I asked
Thamryis narrows his eyes, "Huh. Never thought of that before. Maybe they go to chaos or maybe they just stick around. Not exactly sure and I'm not sure I ever want to know.." he breathed over the endless possibilities. "Hey. Eh. Doesn't matter. All that matters is that you guys get claimed."
"Claimed?" Sulis asked. "Oh my..Goodness, yes! For Pete sakes you guys really need to go to A halfblood camp immediately to know everything. Being claimed means your Godly parent or whoever recognized you as their child."
"Gosh how long have I been down here" he muttered, "so wait you learned about Greek mythology yet know nothing about it? Your school system is Shit."
"You got that right" Sulis Chucks. "You have to curse?" I frown. "Pfft, oh yea! Just don't repeat it, youngsters. Mommy or daddy wouldn't be too happy with what you say. Bleh!" He sticks out his tongue and begins to laugh. Sulis laughs with him. I give her the look, and she stops. "Ok ok but yea. That's pretty much all I know."
I cross my arms, "wait that's all?" He nodded, "Mhm. Yep, only rumors I heard back in Tarty."
"Tarty pass!" Isolde shouts. I shake my head. "So wait, you're telling me, a secular culture and Country. Is home to the Greek gods, and they go around mating with people to have Offspring, to use for their bidding. Or will or plan or whatever" I say.
"That's exactly what I'm saying. Though the using of the word "mate", not too sure. Plus, I'm also glad the country is secular. I wouldn't want people to be forced to worship the Muses, Any figure, or any God for that matter without freedom or simply to push one's own ideology around" he frowns.
"In most places of the ancient world religion wasn't so separate from government, and so you had to believe in the Gods or else your pretty much executed, or propaganda was always a thing. For example, Ancient Rome was one of those places. You were especially in trouble and dead if you talked bad about the Divine." He nods his head. "Oh," I replied, not sure how he survived though, he curses the muses out 24-7. "Well, we still have that problem today " I hear Sulis mutter.
"So when we get back to the surface, what do we do?" I asked
"Survive." Thamryis recommended as he walked ahead of Sulis and I. We were gonna do something dangerous yet.
