I loaded the Last of my boxes into the back of my car, sighing and wiping the sweat from my forehead, kissing my teeth as my parent fawned over a crying Mabel as she sobbed over my moving before she could finish school.
"it's not fair! We should be able to go together!"
She whines, sniffling and wiping her face with her sweater which had an umbrella with a sad face on it. Rolling my eyes I felt someone tug on my hoodie, and looked down to see little leo. I picked them up with a smile and ruffled their hair, taking their bag and popping them into the back before shutting the door loudly making my parents and sister jump, startled, and Leo devolve into giggles. I smiled at them and sat them in the front seat, letting them buckle themselves into the car.
"Dipper, don't cause trouble and take care of your sibling."
"yes, mother."
I sighed, pulling my cap onto my head, she handed me a bag of treats I knew wouldn't last the 9 hours of driving. I gave a false smile and hugged her, shaking my father's hand and hugging the still crying Mable.
"I-ill miss you, bro bro!"
She sobbed, as she hugged me, with a roll of my eyes I fake a chipper tone, exhausted by her childishness.
"don't worry, Mable! You'll join us in a week, and you get the attic all to yourself!"
She pouted and wiped her eyes, sniffling.
"I suppose... Still sucks you only have two rooms in that new place..."
I smiled, that lie would probably bite me in the ass later. There was three rooms, I just really, really didn't want to deal with her the whole summer. I shrugged.
"what can you do? We atleast can hang out!"
Leo leaned out the window, with a bright, toothy smile.
"any you can introduce me to the grunkles!"
They cheered, earning a laugh from us all.
"sure, Leo, I'll introduce you. They're gonna help with the moving anyway."
They cheered and leaned back into the car.
"thanks for letting them come, I've been wanting to spend more time with them and this is perfect for it."
I spoke sincerely as I watched leo rifle through his bag and pull out some gummy snakes and munched on them.
"it's no problem, they needed more outside experience, and being out of the city will help with it."
Father said, smacking my back twice before resting his hand on my shoulder as mother and Mable walked back to the house to wait.
"look at you, Mason. You've grown so much, and are someone to be proud of, you even got muscle on yah."
My surprise must have shown as he chuckled, placing something in my hand.
"your mother and I may not show it but we are proud. I'm glad that you will be someone leo will look up to, I'm sorry you're mother is so focused on Mable. But take this. It's a heir loom from you grandparents. Care for it."
I looked into my hands and saw a silver ring I had always seen my grandpa wear, it fascinated me for years. The swirl of colours had always had the orion constellation, glittering inside of it. I nodded to my father and hugged him again before going to the drivers side of the car. I put the ring in my pocket for the time being and turn to leo who was still munching on the gummy snakes, I smirked and grabbed one, biting it and I smirked at the whine of the younger as they pouted through another snake.
"let's get this show on the road, huh?"
I smiled, earning a giddy nod from Leo as I buckled in. Waving to my parents and Mable as she cried again I pulled out of the drive and stared on the journey. Leo waved out the window for a bit longer before returning to the seat and reaching for the radio, turning on its Bluetooth and looking at me expectantly. With an eye roll I passed my phone to them as they opened it and went through my Spotify, playing one of the playlists I helped them make. Smiling I nodded my head to the tune, this would be a fun trip.

Time skip-- about 7 hours into the trip.

We pulled into a stop to grab some fast food to eat, leo cheered as they spotted the macdonalds we where approaching. We went through the drive through and sat in the parking lot to eat, my phone started to ring and I picked it up.
"hello?"
"hey, kid. When you gonna get here? I wanna meet this leo kid."
I perked up and responed.
"oh hey Grunkle Stan. we are about 2 hours out, we should be their soon, we just stopped for a bite, we are at the truck stop just outside Oregan."
Their was a pause and some muffled arguing before Ford's voice sounded through the phone.
"we can't wait to see you, Dipper. We have a surprise for you tomorrow."
"alright, we'll finish up here and I'll see you around 4."
"see you soon!"
They cheered through the phone hanging up.
"finish up that burger th-"
I turn to see Leo covered in ketchup and ice-cream and shook my head with a smile, pulling out the baby wipes from the glove box.
"never mind. I'll finish then we can head out once the rubbish is away."
I said wiping their face with one hand and eating with the other, remembering how I did this when they where only 1 and decided that spaghetti-o's where their worst enemy and needed to be sent to the nether realm.
"right, I'll be back in a sec, don't open the doors for anyone."
I said, grabbing the rubbish bag we'd made over the trip and walked to the bin, tossing it in. I turn back to the car and paused, a shiver racking my form. I felt like something was watching me from the forest, I hadn't felt this way since- I grabbed my left forearm and glanced at the tattoo. No. He's gone. We made sure of it.
"it's just the paranoia, pines. Calm down."
I muttered, walking back to the car, before I got in, I glanced to the tree line and withheld a gasp as a shadow flew behind the tree. I shook it off and got in, slamming my door. Leo looked at me confused.
"what's wrong Dipper?"
I sighed and shook my head, smiling at them.
"it's nothing, just you're brother being stupid."
"your not stupid! You know how to spell onomatopoeia!"
I laughed, my panic subsiding as we laughed, I ruffled his hair and started the car.
"I guess so. I guess so."
As we drove away I could have swarm I saw three sets on blue flames disappear into the forest.
