Chapter five

Third pov
The car parked near an abandoned building. "This way." Cyrus said.  And led them to the building.  "You can see all the canyons on this side." the boy added when they were in the open area of the building " How many times have you been up here?" Phoebe asked " Once or twice. " "Is this safe?" another girl asked " Nope. Why do you think there are a hundred signs out there telling us not to come in?" "Stop being a bunch of pussies. " Cyrus looked back at the others "You can't say "pussy" anymore, asshоlе.  It's sexist." Phoebe said " But I'm bi and you can talk about my asshоlе?" "Holy shit. Look" the girl said surprised  "It's the fսcking apocalypse." Phoebe said looking at the mountains  "That's a fire line over there. They've contained that part. You see the stone ridges? That's where they're saying the origin point is." Cyrus explained. " Where one of us started the fire." Austin added, " You really think it's one of us?" " Everybody's saying it was a kid from our school. Probably someone sitting on the bus with us." " I wasn't on that bus." Cyrus said  "But you know a lot about fire, don't you, Cyrus?" Austin said coming closer to the boy  "My dad was a fսckng firefighter." Cyrus looked annoyed  "I know who it was." Phoebe cut in " You know who set the fire?"" Well, I have a theory. If it was definitely someone on the bus." " Well, it wasn't me." Tia said " No one's talking about you, Tia. Literally, no one ever talks about you." the the girl said annoyed  "Who's your suspect?" Austin asked  "Blake Navarro." the teens talked without a suspicion that the bloodthirsty monster was nearby " Remember what she was like last year, you guys? Like, completely normal. And then her parents get divorced and she gets all anti-technology and just fսcking drops every single one of her friends." Phoebe continues "You mean you?" Tia said angrily not liking the comment that was thrown at her earlier. "Okay, so you guys would all be totally shocked to see her on the news in handcuffs?" Phoebe didn't stop. Hate towards the poor girl was evident. "I kind of like that she doesn't carry a cell phone. She just doesn't give a fսck." Cyrus said and  took out his phone and texted Alice "hey it's Cyrus" "hey something wrong?" Alice replied, "no just wanted to text you where are you?" "in the cop's car, Harlan is there too" "why the fuck are you there do they think it was one of you" "we aren't arrested as they say so probably no" Cyrus heard Phoebe say " Okay, keep making my point, please. Thank you." the girl almost fell off the cliff if it wasn't for Austin " Guess who else is gonna be on the news? You as one of those dumb fսcks who died taking a selfie." "Wait, wait, wait." the teens looked at each Cyrus sent a quick text "okay I gotta go be careful" "you too" Alice texted   "Do you hear that?" " Hear what?" "Guys, there's someone below us."  Phoebe kneeled and looked through the hole in the floor. The creature was right under her but she didn't know that.  Sirens were heard  "shit. Damn it." " Who the fսck shared their location?" Austin asked panicking " If I don't, my parents call the cops to find me. " Tia answered "Oh, shit "they tried to run but the cops came in  "Uh, we were just here to see the fire." Cyrus said  "Now you're coming with us. " "We got four of 'em."

Everett, Luna Harlan, Blake, and Alice were in the police car everyone was calm except Everett.
"Why are they here? " he asked "I don't know. I don't care." Blake replied " They were at the hospital." " Please shut up." "Oh. W-what were they doing there?" " Everett, you need to shut up. Stop talking, stop moving, stop everything." Harlan looked back at them " Keep your fսcking mouth shut." he said through gritted teeth "No talking." the cop said annoyed. Harlan put his head on his mate trying to calm himself "It's still the full moon." Everett continued " What's his problem anyway?"Harlan asked " I think he's got anxiety." Alice answered a little bit concerned for the boy " He's got something." "shut up" " What if they're still trying to kill us?" Everett was panicking. that rose suspicion in the cops " What if they killed Connor? He was bitten too." " Who's Connor?" Luna asked   "Whispering is talking." the man said again.  "I'm sorry, but are we under arrest?" Luna asked "Don't say that." Harlan said "Why not?" " Because then they will arrest us." Alice answered " It's a few questions, guys. We're just trying to clear up timelines and stuff like that. Nobody's getting arrested." the woman replied " Well, then how about you call our parents?"Blake said leaning on the sit " Oh, shit, my parents. Oh, no." Everett whispered " Once we get there, how about you call them yourselves?" " They're gonna kill me." " Look, Everett, take this." " Is it a pill? " "No. Try it." Blake gave the boy her brother's fidget toy. Everett squished it " No, no, no. No. No. Like This. " the girl showed him In a few minutes the car stopped  "We're here." the group entered the building. Harlan and Alice saw Cyrus talking on the phone "hey okay I gotta go" he said and came up to the two teens "what's going on "he asked "they want to investigate us" Alice answered "do they think it was one of you" Cyrus was getting worried "have no idea" Harlan asked "move" the cop pushed the two teenagers "hey take your hands off of them" Cyrus protested angrily. Not likening how his mates were handled. He tried to follow them but other officers stopped him. "You got a problem," Harlan asked "just you" the boy was about to answer him but Alice took his hand "don't" Harlan just nodded. "Sit down" he pushed them on the chair  "you all wait here" Phoebe came in" Phoebe. Hey, Phoebe. What'd they ask you?" Blake asked standing up "About the fire. You know, they think it's one of us. " "What'd you tell them?" Blake asked " That I think it was you." the girl turned towards Harlan " Hey, Harlan, steal anyone's boyfriend lately?" Alice fisted her hand not liking the girl  "Just yours." Phoebe left  "She was fսcking with me, right?" Blake asked iriteded
"We should ask for a lawyer." Everett said " You know what happens when we do that? They arrest us." Harlan said " I'm not getting arrested. " Blake looked at them "Sorry, but if I have to, I'm telling them everything they want to know." she added "Everything?" " We need a story. Something simple. We all stick to it." Alice said " Like we were working on a school project or something?" Luna asked. Harlan and Alice looked at her with a "you kidding right" look " No. Jesus, Luna. Like we were smoking weed." the boy said " But that's a crime." "Which makes it sound like we're telling the truth." "Nobody gives a shit about a couple of kids smoking in the woods." Alice finished "I don't smoke weed. I tried edibles once and all it did was make my anxiety worse." Everett said, "So you're that guy?" Harlan asked, " Pretty much." after a few minutes the teens were separated from each other into different rooms.
Alice was sitting on the chair when the woman came in "I'm an Arson investigator Kristin Ramsey and you are" the woman sat in front of Alice "Alice Mccall" "okay I have a few questions" Alice just nodded. "Firefighters found you running out of the woods, what were you doing there" " I was trying to get out of there obviously," Alice said looking at the woman "were you on the bus" "no I was in the woods when the fire started" Alice lied because she couldn't say that she was from another world. "What were you doing there" the cop that pushed her earlier asked "I was taking a walk and drinking a beer" "okay and what were you doing in the woods later with those kids," Kristin asked "the same" "and what were they doing" "smoking a joint of weed" " you said you drank beer does that mean you're drunk," the cop asked "I don't know officer do you want I do a quick alphabet test starting with the letter F and ending with U," Alice said with a fake smile "you little shit,"  the man said but was cut off by the woman "okay we are done here" they left and Alice tried to listen to them. She heard Kristin investigate Everett. The boy was nervous.  "Everett, your friend Connor is missing." Kristin put a bandage on the table " It, uh, looks like he pulled his leg right out of this cast which, I imagine, was not easy to do. Must have been in quite a hurry. " she added "What do you mean missing?" " No one can seem to find him and he's not answering his phone." the woman said "In other words, missing." the man added " His parents are understandably concerned. They have no idea why he would just leave the hospital like that. " "Yeah. Kind of like what you did the other night." the man tried to make Everett more nervous, more vulnerable than he already was. "Do you think Connor had anything to do with the fire?"  the woman asked "No. He-he would never do anything like that". "Do you know someone who would do something like that?" Everett cut her off "Wait, you guys are looking for him, right? Like, to make sure he's okay?" "Actually, Everett, let's get back to you. We have a witness who can place you  Blake Navarro, Alice Mccall and Harlan and  Luna Briggs very close to the point of origin of the fire." "Earlier today. This stone ridge right here. Can you tell me what you guys were doing there?" the woman added " Same thing everyone does there. We were smoking." Everett said happily " Smoking what?" " Weed. " "How often do you smoke?"  "Like, barely ever." " And what exactly were you smoking?" " Weed." " Right. Pipe? Joint? Blunt?"  "An edible."  Harlan and Alice groaned hearing what the boy said " You were smoking an edible?"
"Everett, just say that we smoked and you took an edible." Harlan said to himself " fսcking please."  "They smoked. I took an edible." Everett said hearing what Harlan said earlier "Did you hear that? Everett, can you hear me?" Harlan asked  "Yes." the boy whispered, " Yes what?" Kristin asked  "Yes. That's all we were doing."  "Harlan... I can hear you too." Luna said " Holy shit. You can hear what I'm saying right now?" Harlan asked  "So can I." Blake said "Oh, my God."   "This is fսcking amazing." luna said "Alice " Harlan asked "yeah, yeah I'm here  Everett. Listen to me. I'm gonna tell you exactly what to say. " Alice said "Everett, are you all right? Why do you keep asking about me? Something happened to Connor and you need to find him. " the boy said " I understand your concern. We have local PD out looking for him. But it does make me wonder. Is there a reason Connor might not want to be found? " the woman asked "Everett, forget about Connor. Answer the questions so we can get the hell out of here." Harlan said. When suddenly a cop from earlier came in. "Who you talkin' to?" " No one." " You mean no one on the other side of this wall?" the man knocked on the wall checking it.  "You want to talk?" the man hit Harlan with a chair " Talk to me." he added. "I'm not talking to any of you. I want a lawyer." the boy said " Fine. Let's go get you a lawyer. Get your ass up." he pushed Harlan " Let's go." " Get your... Hey!" the cop hit him and pushed him on the wall  "And you just assaulted a police officer. " the man reached toward the handcuffs "That's not what I saw. Get your hands off my son, officer, or we will have a conversation about the assault." the man with a beard came into the room, he looked angry.
"Mr. Briggs. Mr. Briggs." Kristin called "Are you the one in charge?" the man asked  "Kristin Ramsey. We're very glad you're okay."  "You're not talking to my kids without a lawyer present. " the man said "My lawyer." he added  "Fine. Call him in." " Her. And unless you're charging someone with a crime, they are free to go, right?" " Not if we arrest them." the man said   "Well you can arrest us for 48 hours and then let us go because there were no evidence it would be a great story for the press. Police against innocent kids"Alice said sarcastically  "Uh, Mr. Briggs, we were just asking the kids a couple of questions. They were kind enough to volunteer." the woman said " Not me. I didn't volunteer for shit." Blake got angry " Dad." Luna whispered " What?" "Dad, they need to come with us. " "Why?" " Mr. Briggs."  "Because..." " Mr. Briggs. " "Because they're like us." Luna finished "yeah and I'm not leaving without Alice and Cyrus" Harlan said "what why Cyrus" Luna asked "he is also my mate.I will explain later" the boy said looking at Cyrus who was  standing next to Alice. "Okay" the man said and they all left the building.
